Challenging | - |
Fortunately, most of Mega Tyranitar's moves aren't extremely dangerous. The easiest moves are definitely Bite and Fire Blast. Bite is an easy one despite STAB due to the fact that its low power does Raid Boss Mega Tyranitar absolutely no favors, while its typing makes it easily walled by most of Mega Tyranitar's counters. Meanwhile, Fire Blast hits pretty hard, but it's easy to dodge and comes out infrequently.
Moving up a peg, Iron Tail has strong neutral coverage and more than twice the base power of Bite, making it pretty threatening. Stone Edge takes time to come out, but it's comparable to Fire Blast post-STAB, and is substantially harder to dodge. The one thing that holds it back is the fact that most of Tyranitar's top counters resist it. Finally, Crunch and Brutal Swing are virtually identical when used by Mega Tyranitar as a raid boss, and both are spammy and relatively hard-hitting. However, just about everything that wants to beat up Mega Tyranitar resists them, so they're not exactly a huge game-changer.
Overview
Mega Tyranitar is a very important Mega Evolution that everyone should probably have on their team. Fortunately, it's actually not a terribly difficult boss despite its legendary-tier stats due to its non-legendary raid HP and double-weakness to Fighting Type attacks. Still, don't underestimate this thing, as it does have a really high base stat-line.
Team Building Approach
- Mega Tyranitar has a long list of weaknesses: Fairy, Bug, Grass, Ground, Steel, Water... but BY FAR the most important is its double-weakness to Fighting.
- Fighting is the prime choice here, as Fighting Types resist Mega Tyranitar's STAB moves and hit back super hard by preying on its double weakness. This is THE type to prioritize here.
- Steel is generally the silver-medal here due to its resistance to Rock and the sheer power of the top Steel Types.
- Ground also works in this case and or a similar reason as Steel, though with fewer resistances.
- Water has a few amazing options as well, but the advantages start to wane here.
- Grass has a few superstars that can put in good work.
- Fairy is decent, but most Fairy of the top Types will tend to drop pretty quickly here.
- Bug exists.
- Fighting is still the top prime choice. Just a quick reminder in case you decided to read past its initial mention for some reason!
