PvE Analysis
Dynamax Cannon's absolutely unholy power allows Eternatus to more than overcome the extremely heavy competition of Dragon attackers. This monster can even out-DPS Mega Rayquaza, and has surprisingly good defenses and some nice resistances as well, making it an outstanding Pokemon that has extremely high universal value.
This may not be the full extent of Eternatus's overwhelming power. In the main series, Eternatus has another Signature Move that evokes Eternamax Eternatus called Eternabeam, so it very well could see even more power in the future.
Bear in mind this Pokemon's extreme power up costs and rough compatibility with Rare Candy and Rare Candy XLs. Luckily, Eternatus does not need to be fully leveled up to be a monstrous raid attacker. To give a rough comparison, a Level 30 Eternatus is strong enough to slightly outperform a Level 50 Origin Forme Palkia, a sheer titanic feat.
Adventure Effect - Dynamax Cannon
Stardust Cost | Candy Cost | Duration |
---|---|---|
5,000 | 30 Eternatus Candy | 10 Minutes |
Dynamax Cannon is a powerful Adventure Effect for players looking to defeat tough Gigantamax or Legendary Dynamax Max Battles in small groups.
While active, this Adventure Effect raises the level of Max Moves used in Max Battles by 1, and temporarily unlocks any locked Max Moves and sets them to Level 1. If the Max Moves are already at Level 3, then Dynamax Cannon grants the following bonuses:
- If the Pokemon's Max Attack is at Level 3, Dynamax Cannon grants 100 extra damage, or 2 levels' worth of power up.
- Max Guard's shield strength is increased to 80.
- Max Spirit's healing is increased to 20% of the user's Max HP.
This Adventure Effect does not improve Crowned Zacian and Zamazenta's Max Moves. Additionally, its rather expensive 30 Candy Cost means that Rare Candies are less effective at replenishing it.

Good |
- Dragon Tail and Dynamax Cannon* makes Eternatus an absolute titan of a Dragon attacker.
- Eternatus naturally comes with Dynamax Cannon, and the move also cannot be replaced.
- Poison Jab and Sludge Bomb makes Eternatus one of the best Poison Type attackers in the game, but Poison doesn't have many good targets.
- Flamethrower and Dragon Pulse are easy skips.
Dynamax Analysis
It should go without saying that Eternatus is an absolute monster in Dynamax Battles. This thing is the progenitor of the Dynamax Phenomenon, and it shows! Access to Dynamax Cannon allows Eternatus to absolutely tear through the competition, and act as a titanic counter to Dynamax Dragons.
Best Dynamax Moveset
Offensive | ||
---|---|---|
Defensive |
- Dragon Tail is generally the way to go, especially since Dynamax Cannon is the main reason to use it, though Poison Jab can work if you're going for a generalist approach and Poison happens to be Super Effective.
- Using Eternatus defensively is generally not recommended despite its fantastic bulk. It lacks a 0.5s Fast Attack to contribute well to the Max Meter.
PvP Analysis
Eternatus doesn't have a very wide movepool, but it pretty much has exactly what it needs to succeed. Dragon Tail is a great fast move, sporting high damage output that's enhanced by STAB and good energy generation. This supports Dynamax Cannon, which hits like a truck for a relatively low energy cost, and Flamethrower for great coverage to compliment Dragon moves.
Great League | ||

Eternatus can't join the fun of the Great League due to its high CP. | ||
Ultra League | ||
When restrained in the Ultra League, Eternatus' tremendous power doesn't quite shine as brightly as it should. | ||
Master League | ||
In the Master League, Eternatus has all that it needs to succeed. Its tremendous base-stat total is fully on display here, and it can definitely live up to its reputation as the source of the Darkest Day. Eternatus can shred the competition with ease, throwing out massive Dynamax Cannons and covering many of its would-be counters with Flamethrowers coming off of its massive 278 Attack stat. Add to that high overall bulk, and Eternatus is likely to put huge dents in even its counters. |
