PvE Analysis

Mega Tyranitar is, without a doubt, one of the master Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Go. It's the undisputed Dark Type king, and one of the absolute best Rock Types as well. This is a monster with a powerful mix of DPS and TDO, making it not just the best option for racking up damage fast, but the optimal counter in many raids.

The one real issue with Mega Tyranitar is that you kind of need two of them raised; one for Dark Type and one for Rock Type. This is because Smack Down is an Elite Move, so TMing back and forth isn't really something doable unless you have a giant stockpile of Elite Fast TMs that you're willing to drop. So while the investment is definitely worthwhile, raising a Mega Tyranitar for maximum impact is going to be an expensive endeavor!

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

Bite + Brutal SwingBest
Smack Down + Stone EdgeGreat
  • Mega Tyranitar is strongest as a Dark attacker, and its optimal moveset is Bite and Brutal Swing
    • Crunch is okay, but nowhere near as good as Brutal Swing, which is also a part of Mega Tyranitar's normal moveset. Honestly, there's no reason to consider using Crunch over Brutal Swing.
  • It's also a great Rock attacker, where it wants to use Smack Down* and Stone Edge
  • Iron Tail, Fire Blast, and Return* are all trash on Mega Tyranitar.
