PvE Analysis

Kabutops is never going to be a top-tier Dynamax Pokemon, but it's actually not a bad Dynamax Pokemon by any stretch of the imagination. First, this thing has serviceable Attack, meaning it can deal solid damage. Second, it has access to Water, Fighting, Ground, and Bug Type Max Moves (but sadly no Rock), giving it a fair bit of role-compression. Fourth, Its typing, while not the best, gives it a few key resistances for select raids, in particular a double-resistance to Fire, meaning it can potentially act as a lesser tank and an attacker alike in select Max Battles. Finally, Kabutops is Raven8's avatar Pokemon (one of our staff members, who I can neither confirm nor deny is the one who wrote this overview), so you should shoehorn it into every Max Battle possible.

All joking aside, Dynamax Kabutops is a decent investment for those just getting in to Max Battles due to its situational role-compression and decent performance, but it's not something that will remain useful long-term as you start building up better options.

Best Dynamax Movesets

Mud Shot + (Any)Offensive
Fury Cutter* + (Any)Offensive
Waterfall + (Any)Offensive
Rock Smash + (Any)Offensive
Mud Shot or Fury Cutter* + (Any)Defensive
  • Ironically, Kabutops performs best in Max Raids as a Ground or Bug Type attacker due to the fact that it has 0.5 second Fast Moves for both types in Mud Shot and Fury Cutter*.
  • Kabutops is solid as a Water Type, but will pump out Max Moves at a slower pace due to Waterfall taking a full second to execute.
  • Kabutops is capable of operating as a Fighting Type attacker in Max Battles, but that 1.5 second duration makes it pretty sluggish.
  • If you want to defend with Kabutops, then Fury Cutter* and Mud Shot are your way to go.

PvP Analysis

In terms of PvP performance, Dynamax Pokemon are nearly identical to their non-Dynamax counterparts.
