PvE Analysis

Dusk Mane Necrozma is an extremely powerful Steel attacker, courtesy of its incredible Attack stat backed by an absurdly powerful moveset. Longtime players may recall how Metagross and its eventual Shadow form ruled that niche with such an iron fist that no other Pokemon could ever hope to match it. Enter Dusk Mane Necrozma, toppling that throne and eclipsing Shadow Metagross's raw power. The one roadblock to Dusk Mane Necrozma's reign is that there aren't too many Legendary raid bosses that are weak to Steel. However, when one shows up, Dusk Mane Necrozma is more than ready to smash it into smithereens.

Make use of Party Power with Dusk Mane Necrozma whenever possible. Sunsteel Strike has a mind boggling 230 base power, so imagine doubling that.

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

  • Metal Claw and Sunsteel Strike allow Dusk Mane Necrozma to become the apex Steel attacker.
  • Psycho Cut and Future Sight can make Dusk Mane Necrozma a decent Psychic attacker, should you need it.
  • Iron Head can be used as a second Charged Attack to complement Sunsteel Strike as it costs significantly less energy. Its DPS is considerably weaker than Sunsteel Strike, however, so it should only be used when Dusk Mane Necrozma is about to faint and cannot feasibly reach Sunsteel Strike.
  • Shadow Claw, Outrage and Dark Pulse have no use on offense.

PvP Analysis

Shadow Claw + Dark Pulse and Sunsteel StrikeBest
Shadow Claw + Outrage and Iron Head or Dark PulseBest

Despite lacking in STAB, Shadow Claw is Dusk Mane Necrozma's best Fast Attack choice due to its great parameters and offensive coverage. Psycho Cut is a great move, but lacks damage. Metal Claw is bad, even with STAB.

Unlike Dawn Wings Necrozma, Dusk Mane Necrozma's Charged Attack choices are versatile. The moveset of Dark Pulse and Sunsteel Strike grants Dusk Mane Necrozma the greatest explosive potential and good coverage. However, despite its incredible power, Sunsteel Strike can be unreliable due to its high cost, so Trainers may opt for its second moveset for increased reliability.

Outrage is a great move for nailing Dragon-type Pokemon, especially in the Master League where they are abundant. Although Iron Head deals nearly half of Sunsteel Strike's damage, it is cheaper and can be used to pressure Fairy-type Pokemon more reliably. If reliably covering for Fairy-type Pokemon isn't a priority, Dark Pulse can be used to strengthen its matchup against opposing Necrozma.

Future Sight may also be used as an alternative nuke option over Sunsteel Strike to deal heavy damage against some Water- and Fire-type Pokemon that Sunsteel Strike falls short against.

Great League

Dusk Mane Necrozma is ineligible for Great League as its CP is too high.

Ultra League
Dusk Mane Necrozma's highly Attack weighted stat spread means that it is a glass cannon, cursing it with an unfavorable stat product in the Ultra League. Its Charged Attacks are fairly slow for its frailty, and superior Steel-type options like Registeel and Alolan Sandslash make it difficult for Dusk Mane Necrozma to land a niche.
Master League
Dusk Mane Necrozma is the premier choice for a Steel-type in the Master League. Its strong stats, crucial resistances, and flexible movepool make it a versatile choice that fits easily onto teams. Dusk Mane Necrozma keeps various key threats in check, such as Dialga, Zacian, Xerneas, and Lugia. The wide coverage and explosive potential of its moves ensures that Dusk Mane Necrozma is not easily taken advantage of by its potential checks. However, Dusk Mane Necrozma is not invincible. Its Psychic/Steel typing opens it up to four weaknesses, all of which are common. Yveltal, Landorus-T and especially Ho-Oh can be a thorn on Dusk Mane Necrozma's side.
