Virizion
PvE Analysis
Virizion is arguably the least important of the Swords of Justice that includes itself, along with Terrakion, Cobalion, and Keldeo. Its one claim to fame is one of the absolute strongest Fighting Type movesets in the game, though not even that can fully save it from its own atrocious Attack stat. It'll serve in a pinch, but there are better options.
Best PvE Offensive Moveset
Double Kick + Sacred Sword* | Best |
---|
- Double Kick is Virizion's only STAB Fast Move, and it has the best average performance.
- Quick Attack performs better when than Zen Headbutt when fighting neutral opponents, but it's still painfully mediocre.
- Zen Headbutt can be used if you need some extra Psychic Type damage, but it's nothing special/
- Sacred Sword is an excellent move, and the only thing that actually makes Virizion worth considering.
- Leaf Blade is Virizion's second best charge move, hits hard with STAB, and can be used frequently.
- Close Combat is outclassed by Sacred Sword.
- Stone Edge is pretty good, just not on Virizion.
PvP Analysis
Double Kick + Leaf Blade and Sacred Sword* |
---|
Double Kick provides good energy gain and a decent STABed damage output. Quick Attack provides the same energy gain as Double Kick, but lacks effectiveness and STAB and is usually the inferior option. Zen Headbutt has one of the worst parameters in the game.
Leaf Blade is one of the best charge moves in the game due to its very low energy cost and high 2.0 DPE (Damage Per Energy), not to mention STAB. Sacred Sword is likewise a very solid and reliable STAB move. Close Combat is risky to use due to the debuff applied on the user, but has a stronger payoff potential than Sacred Sword. Stone Edge costs more energy and lacks STAB, but its coverage can be valuable in certain matchups.
Great League | N / A |
---|---|
Virizion's CP is too high for Great League, though it may possibly be eligible in the future if it would be released through Research Breakthroughs. | |
Ultra League | 5 / 5 |
Virizion is a Grass/Fighting type featuring good bulk, a very strong and unique moveset, and a risky typing. While its no match for the king of Ultra League, Giratina, its unique coverage is quite valuable against common Dark and Steel-types meant to fight Giratina. Access to Leaf Blade is also a welcome asset to dispatch Water Pokemon like Swampert and Tapu Fini. Additionally, it is one of the rare few Pokemon that resists Ground + Rock, allowing it to wall Galarian Stunfisk. Like almost every other Fighting-types in this league however, Virizion wants nothing to do with Psychic-types, and especially Lugia with Sky Attack. | |
Master League | 3.5 / 5 |
Virizion has relatively low stats in the Master League - just a bit lower than Togekiss in terms of stat product. Its Grass/Fighting typing is quite interesting in terms of corebreaking potential, challenging Kyogre+Dialga and Zarude+Steel or Ground cores. Though it was once unreliable at this niche, the addition of Double Kick in the Season 12 update made sure that this is no longer an issue. Keep in mind that Virizion's typing is a double edged sword - it can absolutely pop off against certain team compositions, but there are many common Master League Pokemon that can simply outright wall it. |
