Ghost Type Grunt - "Ke...Ke...Ke...Ke...Ke...Ke!"

Ghost types, arguably, look the coolest with the shadowy effect shadow pokemon get. There are a decent amount of PvP viable encounters this grunt carries around, so if you're a PvP enthusiast you'll be happy seeing one of these pop up. While the grunt itself isn't the hardest to take down, but they tend to be able to catch you off guard with their final pokemon, so be prepared!

Pokemon Lineup

Catchable Pokemon
Shadow DrifloonShadow Drifblim has genuine PvP relevance, being mostly in the ultra league. It's a solid choice, especially if you don't have a Giratina ready to go, and it has a diverse movepool in Icy Wind and Mystical Fire.
Shadow GolettWhile it can't compete with the top Ground type attackers, Shadow Golurk is a decent investment if you're lacking in the Ground type attacker department.
Shadow DuskullShadow Dusknoir has some utility, in particular in the Ultra League, so picking up a good one may just pay off.
Shadow DusclopsSee Duskull
Shadow SableyeSableye has been a staple in the PvP scene and continues to be so. It's always worth picking one of these up if you're into PvP where it has play in the Great League. And if PvP is not your thing, you get some extra trouble for catching this spooky goblin.

Supreme Counters

Hydreigon with Bite and Brutal Swing can take quite a few hits, just like any Dark type, and dish out great damage in return. Though make sure you save a Brutal Swing against Froslass in the final slot who's Powder Snow can hurt Hydreigon.

Much like Hydreigon, Tyranitar can easily take any Ghost type attacks that get thrown at it with ramping damage from Bite and a Brutal Swing for good measure. Though it doesn't appreciate Mud Slaps from Golett.

Sometimes you just gotta fight fire with fire, or ghost with ghost I guess... Giratina Origin form is a more tankier Ghost type that can deal a good amount of damage as well. It can be spammy with Ominous Wind and grab a potential attack and defense boost along the way or deal devestating damage with Shadow Ball or Shadow Force. Just make sure it has Shadow Claw and not Dragon Tail.

Giratina's Altered Forme has the advantage of being able to run Shadow Claw and Dragon Claw. And while it may look like Dragon Claw is inferior here, its low energy cost combined with Shadow Claw's high energy gains means that it can frequently stun-lock opposing rockets, allowing them only one or two fast move uses per charged move that Giratina launches.

If anything is weak to Ghost, Dawn Wings Necrozma is going to pop up and for good reason. With an absurdly high attack stat and having access to Shadow Claw it can make quick work of any ghost types standing its way. Though it's more than allergic to Ghost itself being double weak to it, which in reality won't hinder it too much. Oh how nice it is to have an amazing attack stat.

Good Counters

Excadrill has good coverage against anything in the last slot with Mud Slap, Scorching Sands for Gengar and Alolan Marowak or Rock Slide against Froslass or Alolan Marowak. But please keep in mind that with the right fast move, Alolan Marowak can melt Excadrill quite easily.

Gengar is definetly a solid choice here. The only problem is that you might want to bring multiple as it's quite glassy whilst also taking super effective damage from Ghost type moves. Just make sure you're using Shadow Claw along with Shadow Ball.

Other Good Counters

In conjunction with the above counters, several other Pokemon do a great job here, including a number of generally great Pokemon in the Master League. Feel free to mix-and-match a bit, as any of these and beyond can do a great job as well!
