PvE Analysis

Dawn Wings Necrozma is one of the apex attackers in Pokemon GO thanks to its monstrous Attack, incredible moves, and a useful typing. The combination of Shadow Claw and the immensely overpowered Moongeist Beam allows Dawn Wings Necrozma to outperform other high caliber Ghost (...and Dark) attackers such as Shadow Chandelure and Shadow Tyranitar. Furthermore, due to the frequency of Psychic- (and to a lesser extent Ghost-) type Legendary raid bosses, Dawn Wings Necrozma will see plenty of play. Definitely do not miss out on the opportunity to obtain this Pokemon whenever it is around.

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

  • Shadow Claw and Moongeist Beam make Dawn Wings Necrozma an absolutely terrifying Ghost attacker. Note that Moongeist Beam is automatically learned when Necrozma fuses with Lunala.
  • Psycho Cut and Future Sight can make Dawn Wings Necrozma a respectable Psychic attacker.
  • Metal Claw is best suited for its alternate forme, Dusk Mane Necrozma.
  • Dark Pulse can be used as a second Charged Attack due to its cheaper energy cost and largely identical coverage to Ghost. If Dawn Wings Necrozma is about to faint and cannot reach a Moongeist Beam, Dark Pulse can be fired instead.
  • Outrage and Iron Head don't serve much purpose

PvP Analysis

Shadow Claw is by far and away Dawn Wings Necrozma's superior Fast Attack, boasting good damage, incredible energy generation, and STAB. Psycho Cut is a good Fast Attack, but pales in comparison to Shadow Claw because its damage is lacking. Metal Claw is horrible in PvP.

Moongeist Beam is the move that defines Dawn Wings Necrozma, deleting just about anything that doesn't resist it. However, it comes at a rather expensive energy cost, so Dawn Wings Necrozma must have cheaper attacks to not over-rely on it. Dark Pulse is one of its cheapest moves and helps make its "Ghost"-type damage output more reliable. Iron Head can provide additional coverage to hit Fairy-type Pokemon more reliably, but Dawn Wings Necrozma often does not need additional coverage as Ghost is already such an incredible offensive type on its own. Future Sight is a good move and can significantly damage Normal-type Pokemon, but it is expensive. Outrage can surprise some Dragon-type Pokemon, but it too is a little too expensive and does not provide much utility otherwise.

Great League

Dawn Wings Necrozma is unobtainable in the Great League.

Ultra League

Dawn Wings Necrozma is incredibly fragile and its fairly expensive moves are outpaced by most Ultra League Pokemon. There are other Ghost-type alternatives in this league, such as Giratina and Cofagrigus.

Master League

Dawn Wings Necrozma is an absolute menace in the Master League. Successfully landing a Moongeist Beam means lights out for many Pokemon that don't resist it - and many don't! Dark- and Normal-type options are scarce in this league, allowing Dawn Wings Necrozma to run amuk with few true answers. Dawn Wings Necrozma is at its most terrifying when its opponents have one or no shields remaining. Since Dawn Wings Necrozma only has two weaknesses, it is also not too hard to fit into teams.

Some downsides to Dawn Wings Necrozma include its general lack of good resistances and its moderate issues against opponents with two shields remaining. Additionally, as it is considered a Necrozma, many formats will not permit the use of both Dawn Wings Necrozma and Dusk Mane Necrozma on one team.  Beware of Yveltal, Zygarde, Zarude, and other Normal- or Dark-type opponents, as they will make Dawn Wings Necrozma's life a living hell.
