Yveltal
PvE Analysis
The Destruction Pokemon itself; Yveltal may not be the top Pokemon in either of its types, but its ability to operate well on either side of the spectrum gives it genuine value. However, it's also not quite as balanced as it may seem. As a Dark Type, it has the unfortunate disadvantage of directly competing with Brutal Swing Tyranitar, as well as powerful Ghost attackers.. On the Flying side, thanks to its signature move Oblivion Wing, it possesses better DPS. However, Flying tends to have less utility in raids, and Yveltal trails far behind Dragon Ascent Rayquaza. Another unfortunate aspect of Yveltal's Flying attacker prowess is that being part Dark-type removes its resistances to Bug and Fighting, two types that Flying attackers prey on.
Honestly, Yveltal's greatest worth is for newer players due to its role compression. It's not a bad Pokemon, but other Pokemon tend to do its job a bit better. Additionally, since Dragon Ascent Rayquaza is rather limited due to the general scarcity of Meteorites, Yveltal can still fill out the remainder of your Flying attacking needs,
Best PvE Offensive Moveset
Gust + Oblivion Wing* | Best |
---|---|
Snarl + Dark Pulse | Great |
- Snarl and Dark Pulse make Yveltal a respectable Dark attacker when paired together. Sucker Punch is okay, but ultimately the weaker choice.
- Gust and Oblivion Wing* make Yveltal a strong Flying attacker. Hurricane is a fairly large step down from Oblivion Wing, but is not a legacy move.
- Focus Blast, Psychic, and Hyper Beam are sub-par choices.
PvP Analysis
Sucker Punch + Oblivion Wing* and Dark Pulse or Focus Blast |
---|
Sucker Punch is one of the best Fast Attacks in the game thanks to its incredible damage output and above average energy generation. Though Snarl offers more energy generation, its significantly lower damage output makes it not worth it. Gust can provide alternative coverage, but it's usually not worth running over Sucker Punch.
Oblivion Wing, Yveltal's signature move, is its most important Charged Attack due to its moderate cost and coverage against Fairy-type Pokemon. Dark Pulse increases the reliability of Yveltal's Dark-type damage even further. Focus Blast can provide surprising burst damage and coverage, but its expensive cost makes it hard to use reliably. Hurricane is largely outclassed by Oblivion Wing, while Psychic and Hyper Beam have no practical uses.
Great League | N / A |
---|---|
Yveltal's CP is too high for Great League. If it can be obtained in the future through Research Tasks or other methods, then it might have a shot in this league. | |
Ultra League | 0 / 5 |
Yveltal sets itself apart from the much tankier Mandibuzz with its highly reliable Dark-type damage through Sucker Punch. However, its offensively slanted stats aren't great for the Ultra League. Galarian Moltres is largely the preferred choice for a Sucker Punching Dark/Flying Pokemon thanks to its superior stats. | |
Master League | 5 / 5 |
Yveltal's legendary stats, highly disruptive typing, and great moveset are incredibly well suited for the Master League. Thanks to the numerous Psychic-, Ground-, and Ghost-type Pokemon in this league, Yveltal finds itself with no shortage of prey to hunt down. Pokemon GO: Max Out provided Yveltal with a massive buff to Sucker Punch, eliminating the bird's former issue of dealing poor neutral damage. Not much can safely answer Yveltal outside of certain Fairy-type Pokemon such as Xerneas and Charm Primarina, and even they may struggle to comfortably tank an Oblivion Wing combined with Sucker Punch's high damage output. |
