Galarian Moltres
PvE Analysis
While a Pokemon with an amazing design behind it, Galarian Moltres is ironically the least valuable PvE attacker in its trio. An ATK stat that barely breaks 200 is unimpressive compared to existing attackers, and Payback is a poor move for PvE offense. As a Flying-type attacker, Kanto Moltres is miles ahead.
However, Galarian Moltres does have potential! In the main series, it has a Dark Type Signature Move by the name of Fiery Wrath, so it may yet rise to become something great.
Best PvE Offensive Moveset
Wing Attack + Brave Bird | Best |
---|---|
Sucker Punch + Payback | Great |
- Wing Attack and Brave Bird are recommended for a Flying-type attacker role.
- Sucker Punch and Payback perform less optimally, but can still be decent for Dark-type damage.
- Ancient Power has no use.
PvP Analysis
Sucker Punch deals significantly more damage than Wing Attack for the same energy gain, making it clearly the better choice.
Brave Bird is the most useful Charge Move available, threatening massive damage with a moderately high energy cost and applying a self-debuff. Ancient Power is Galarian Moltres's lowest costing move and can be used to pressure shields. Payback demands slightly more energy than Brave Bird, but deals strong Dark-type damage if unshielded.
Great League | 4 / 5 |
---|---|
Galarian Moltres actually has a decent stat product, being comparable to Nidoqueen and Obstagoon, two somewhat tanky Pokemon. Compared to another prominent Dark/Flying Pokemon, Mandibuzz, Galarian Moltres sets itself apart through Sucker Punch's consistent damage and Brave Bird's explosive potential. However, Galarian Moltres's biggest issue is that it really struggles to handle Fighting-type Pokemon - it deals resisted damage with Sucker Punch and has to rely on the risky Brave Bird to win them. Galarian Moltres is highly rewarding to trainers who can find ways around the awkwardness of its moveset and reap the benefits of its incredible damage potential. | |
Ultra League | 4.5 / 5 |
Thanks to the increased bulk in Ultra League, Galarian Moltres can reach its devastating nukes more consistently. In that sense, it can be even more threatening than Mandibuzz, as it packs enough damage to potentially overwhelm its counters when given farm opportunities. Though its heavy damage playstyle is inconsistent, Galarian Moltres's closing potential is still worthy of respect. | |
Master League | 3.5 / 5 |
Galarian Moltres isn't too shabby in the Master League; its typing is useful due to the number of Ghost- and Psychic-type Pokemon in the meta. Unfortunately, Yveltal exists, and does whatever Galarian Moltres wants to do but better. Realistically, the best role for Galarian Moltres in the Master League is to be used as a "second Yveltal" in an ABB-style team. |
