Raid Information

Eternamax Eternatus.... this was the shadow hiding in the corner of our minds for 6 years. A monster that we all used to pass off with a wave, saying "there's no way that they'll ever release THAT in Pokemon Go". But here we are, facing down the Darkest Day ourselves. Just a shame that we can't use it ourselves.

Eternamax Eternatus lives up to the hype as one of the absolute apex Pokemon to ever exist. This thing keeps its tremendous raw stats and access to one of the absolute strongest attacks in the history of the game. These factors make it a huge threat that should be tackled with as many players as possible, but even then we have problems. For example; the prime counters to Eternatus all have something to fear from its moveset. Zacian and Zamazenta's Crowned formes can play through most of its attacks, but Flamethrower threatens to drop them VERY fast. The top attackers into Eternatus can hit it pretty hard, but they all fear at least one of its Charged Moves. For these reasons, switching Pokemon from tanks to attackers can be very important

If you want to raise an Eternatus for yourself, then be ready to raid the heck out of this thing. It's going to take a ton of candy and stardust to raise. So what do you get in return? An absolute monster in Raids, Max Raids, and the Master League alike. This thing has amazing utility due to its raw power, and it's worth noting that this isn't the end for Eternatus. While Dynamax Cannon is a cataclysmic attack, it's worth mentioning that in the main series it also has the absolutely devastating Eternabeam as another Signature Move, so stock up on candy!

Raid Counters

DPS Counters

As stated above, there is no clear winner here. While using Eternatus to fight its Eternamax forme results in the best possible DPS and doesn't care about Flamethrower or Cross Poison, it's going to struggle against Dragon Pulse. Metagross and Excadrill both hit hard and can work through Dragon Pulse and Cross Poison, but Flamethrower drops them pretty easily. Latios and Latias are both great against Flamethrower, but they hate Dragon Pulse. Hatterene can shrug off Dragon Pulse, but hates Cross Poison. For this reason, it's great if you have a few different options to pick from on offense. If not, then just pick your best counter and get ready to recover with your tanks.

Tank Counters

In a strange twist, the shield is actually not the best option for defending. The primary role of your TDO counters this time is to sponge Max Moves, and since Dynamax Cannon if what you're going to be facing down, Zacian's triple-resistance to Dragon Type moves makes it the absolute best tank this time around.

Beyond the two big names, the name of the game is trying to resist as many attacks as possible and keep shields up, and the options here all have various advantages that make them worth considering.

Healing Counters

While we generally don't bother differentiating types of tanks, we're making an exception this time. That's because these Pokemon generally won't survive a Dynamax Cannon, but they can provide tremendous amounts of healing if switched in at the right time.

Raid Information

  • Choose a DPS counter and round out your team with Tank Counters, and consider a Healing Counter to make the most of recovery in short order. Your goal is to ensure that your DPS Counter can last as long as possible to maximize its potential damage output.
  • Leading with your tank, charging the Max Meter, and then switching to your DPS counter during Dynamax is a simple general approach to getting great mileage from your fragile damage dealers.
  • Due to the potency of some attacks, it is often important to stabilize your defenses before going on the offensive. During the first Dynamax phase, it is often beneficial to fortify your tank with Max Guard three times to significantly improve their survivability. Once their health is safe, you may begin switching to your DPS counters during the subsequent Dynamax phases to fully focus on their damage. Be sure to switch back to the tanks after the Dynamax phase ends to preserve your DPS counters, and don't be afraid to switch in a healer to ensure that you stay in the game.
  • Remember that Max Guard also has a redirection function. While a Pokemon is shielded, the boss will prioritize attacking said Pokemon when it uses its targeted Attack. Dodge this attack to help maintain your shields!
  • In the absence of good communication, making use of Max Spirit and Max Guard becomes even more important to maintain your group’s longevity. As Max Spirit and Max Guard are not unlocked by default, you may have Trainers in your group who are only capable of using Max Attacks.
