PvE Analysis

The thought of Dynamax Wailord's colossal size was a hot topic since the early days of Pokemon Sword and Shield. Unfortunately, due to game limitations, it's...really not that much bigger from its regular size. That said, one can still speculate on how big it can really get if it wasn't for those limitations...

Sadly, regardless of how gigantic Dynamax Wailord can be, its size doesn't translate particularly well into battle prowess. It's nothing special offensively, and it is also a poor tank because its abysmal Defense betrays its titanic HP. In practice, Dynamax Wailord is less tanky than Blastoise overall. Dynamax Wailord is an amazing healer due to its high HP, but it is also severely outclassed by Blissey in that regard.

Best Dynamax Movesets

Water Gun + (any)Offensive and Defensive
  • Water Gun is chosen for its 0.5s duration, which lets Wailord contribute to the Max Meter more quickly and best fulfill its role as a serviceable tank and healer
  • Surf is the best Charged Attack overall due to its shorter duration, though Wailord should rarely use it as it can slow down the Max Meter too much if spammed.
  • Rollout can be used if a Rock attacker is desired, but there are often much better alternatives. In the event the target boss is doubly weak to Rock, some other singly-effective Attackers are often strong enough to outdamage Wailord's Max Rockfall. Don't use Rollout if you're using Wailord defensively.
  • Wailord's other moves aren't worth noting.
