Spiritomb
PvE Analysis
Spiritomb has always been a unique Pokemon, but never the most powerful one. Before the introduction of Fairy-types, Spiritomb literally had no weakness thanks to its wonderful Dark/Ghost typing. However, such advantage is offset by its underwhelming offensive and defensive stats, which hinder its value aside from pure novelty factor. It's still fun to encounter it every Halloween, though!
Best PvE Offensive Moveset
Sucker Punch or Feint Attack + Shadow Ball | Best |
---|
Sucker Punch and Feint Attack perform on par with each other.
Shadow Ball is by far Spiritomb’s best offensive charged move.
Shadow Sneak is a strictly inferior version of Ominous Wind.
Best PvE Defensive Moveset
Feint Attack + Shadow Ball or Ominous Wind | Best |
---|
Feint Attack does more damage than Sucker Punch.
Shadow Ball offers more power than Ominous Wind, but also higher energy cost and a later damage window.
Shadow Sneak is a strictly inferior version of Ominous Wind.
PvP Analysis
Sucker Punch + Shadow Ball and Ominous Wind |
---|
Sucker Punch and Feint Attack are both rather average options. Sucker Punch's superior energy gain helps Spiritomb reach Shadow Ball considerably sooner, however.
Shadow Ball is the main threat that Spiritomb provides. Ominous Wind can be used to bait shields and possibly proc a stat buff, but its damage is rather pitiful. Shadow Sneak is one of the worst charge moves in the game.Â
Spiritomb was introduced during the 2018 Halloween event, and subsequently forgotten about until a few months later. If you didn't start the "A Spooky Message" research quest line by November 1, 2018, you're kinda out of luck as it's currently unobtainable. While it might be difficult to find someone who's willing to trade away their only Spiritomb, your efforts might be worth it as Spiritomb is one of the best contenders in Great League. What makes Spiritomb a very solid pick is its very unique typing, which is shared by another Great League powerhouse: Sableye. Dark/Ghost covers its weaknesses very well, leaving it vulnerable to only Fairy attacks. One big drawback to Spiritomb is its cursed moveset. Both of its fast moves are Dark type, while all of its charge moves are Ghost type, which makes Spiritomb very predictable. That said, in general, Sableye just kinda does it better.
Ultra League: 1 / 5
Spiritomb's performance in Ultra League is ultimately handicapped by its inadequate stats, which caps its maximum CP at 2072. This severely limits Spiritomb's capabilities and causes losses in many neutral fights, but Spiritomb's unique typing allows it to compete against certain Pokemon weak to its attacks, including the top dog in Ultra League: Giratina. While Spiritomb still loses against Giratina with even shields, the fact that it can severely injure the number one ranked Pokemon in Ultra League gives it an interesting niche.Â
Master League: 0 / 5
Spiritomb's incredible typing can't carry its poor stats into Master League.Â
Great League | 2 / 5 |
---|---|
Spiritomb's typing is almost unique, granting it a sole weakness to Fairy while providing useful resistances to Normal, Fighting, and Psychic. That in conjunction with Spiritomb's decent stats should in theory make it a decent generalist, but it falls short due to its rather mediocre moveset. Spiritomb unfortunately lives in the shadow of Sableye, a fellow Dark/Ghost Pokemon with access to the far superior Shadow Claw.. | |
Ultra League | 1 / 5 |
Spiritomb comes fairly close to the Ultra League CP cap, but it's just too fragile here | |
Master League | 0 / 5 |
Spiritomb is unfortunately cursed with poor stats here. |
