PvE Analysis
The Great Ghost rises once again! Gigantamax Gengar is a monstrous Dynamax option, dealing huge Ghost Type damage thanks to Max Phantasm's boosted Max Move power. It's also in a fairly safe position long-term, as it has the second highest Attack stat of any Gigantamax Pokemon, falling behind only Gigantamax Inteleon by one point. It also has very limited direct competition that's likely to show up in the future, so this is definitely a safe investment.
Due to its frailty, Gigantamax Gengar can rely heavily on its tanky teammates and partners to stick around. Its pronounced weaknesses to Ghost and Psychic, the two types that it wants to counter the most, can shorten its Gigantamax rampage if not played carefully. Making proper use of switches to catch charge moves is essential to maximizing this Pokemon's immense damage potential. Still, this gateway to the next world is definitely worthy of a slot on your team! Heck, if you're lucky enough to score a really good one from Gigantamax Raids, it can even pull double-duty as a Mega Gengar. Just keep in mind that you can't use it in Max Raids while Mega Evolved....
Best PvE Offensive Movesets
Lick* or Shadow Claw + Shadow Ball | Best |
---|
- Gigantamax Gengar is even more locked into its Ghost Type moveset than normal/Shadow/Mega Gengar due to Max Phantasm, though honestly it's not too different from normal as its only other Fast Move option is Dark Type, and its Ghost Type moves not only have the same Super Effective coverage 90% of the time.
- Lick* is generally the strongest Fast Move option for Gengar, though Shadow Claw is really close behind, so it might not be worth using an Elite TM.
- Pair your Fast Move of choice with Shadow Ball and you're good to go.
PvP Analysis
In PvP, Gigantamax Gengar is effectively no different from a normal Gengar, except without access to Return as a move option.
