PvE Analysis

Vikavolt is a pretty interesting Pokemon overall. It's one of the best bugs in the game, able to compete with most of its contemporaries pretty well. As an Electric Type attacker it's pretty solid, but falls somewhere around Luxray in terms of overall power, making it more of a second-string pick for the job. It's not the worst investment, and can be really useful for newer players in particular, but it's also not a high priority.

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

Bug BiteBug Bite + X-ScissorX-ScissorBest
SparkSpark + DischargeDischargeBest
  • Vikavolt is best used with Bug Bite and X-Scissor for maximum general performance.
  • Spark and Discharge is nice for Electric Type damage, and is actually competitive with the Bug Type set for raw DPS, but it has far more competition on that front.
  • Volt Switch* can also work, but it's inferior to Spark.
  • Mudslap, Fly, and Crunch are sub-par choices with no direct utility in this case.

Best PvE Defensive Moveset

Mud SlapMud Slap or Volt SwitchVolt Switch + CrunchCrunch, DischargeDischarge, or FlyFly, or X-ScissorX-ScissorBest
  • Mud Slap hits hard and is generally the defense move of choice.
  • Volt Switch is also great, though it leaves Vikavolt a bit easier to wall.
  • Bug Bite* and Spark are fairly comparable, with the move choice changing depending on which Charged Move is used.
  • Crunch has great neutral coverage and solid synergy with Vikavolt's Fast Moves, making it a great universal pick for defense.
  • Discharge has the highest raw damage post-STAB and it comes out frequently, but it's also pretty easy to leave nearly worthless if the attacker is Ground Type.
  • X-Scissor is a bit weaker and is resisted by a lot of Pokemon, but it's still not a bad move.
  • Fly has its definite utility as well.

PvP Analysis

Volt SwitchVolt Switch + X-ScissorX-Scissor and DischargeDischarge

Volt Switch provides fast energy generation, letting Vikavolt spam its Charge Moves more often. Bug Bite is an alternative choice with a balance of average damage output and energy gains, though Bug-type damage is more niche in the meta. Mud Slap gives up energy gains in favor of stronger damage output, but lacks STAB with Vikavolt.

X-Scissor costs the least amount of energy in the game, allowing Vikavolt to bait shields often. Discharge helps to fulfill Vikavolt's Electric-type role and is useful against common Water Pokemon. Crunch doesn't have as much value for Vikavolt, though it is an option nonetheless.

Great League1.5 / 5

Vikavolt competes directly with Galvantula, but is the inferior of the two. Galvantula has utility with Lunge, stronger damage output with Volt Switch, and both are offensively oriented stat-wise. The only time to consider Vikavolt is when a specific format would ban Galvantula and Vikavolt would have a role to play.

Ultra League2 / 5

Thanks to Candy XL, Galvantula can play in Ultra League, which again brushes Vikavolt off to the sidelines. Vikavolt's fragile bulk is a major downside, and consequently struggles against certain Pokemon it has a typing advantage over, such as Walrein or Lapras.

Master League1 / 5

The only Pokemon that Vikavolt wants to fight in Master League is Gyarados.
