Urshifu - Single Strike Style

PvE Analysis
A single strike is all it takes... to be pretty mediocre! In a world where Brutal Swing rules, Payback does not put in the work needed for Urshifu - Single Strike to rise the ranks to any great degree, so it's very, very far behind the top contenders. But, when all is said and done, Urshifu does have some solid performance as a Fighting Type. Its good moveset and solid Attack makes it better than Pokemon like Conkeldurr, and its Dark sub-typing gives it niches in select raids when used as a Fighting Type, but it still falls behind even the more mediocre Shadows.

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

Good |
- Counter and Dynamic Punch is definitely Urshifu's best moveset on the whole.
- Sucker Punch and Payback can do something if you need a Dark Type.
- Rock Smash, Brick Break, and Close Combat are all pretty bad.
PvP Analysis
Sucker Punch provides higher energy generation than Counter, but also provides the same high damage output.
Urshifu's Charged Attacks consist of a slew of Fighting-type moves - of which Dynamic Punch stands out in due to its high DPE, moderately cheap cost, and lack of drawback. Complimenting that is Payback, a powerful but rather expensive STAB move that covers pesky Ghost- and Psychic-type Pokemon. Brick Break is an option - it is Urshifu's cheapest option and can provide a defense debuff, but its powerful is terribly lacking. Close Combat is more slightly powerful than Dynamic Punch, but it self-inflicts a potentially catastrophic Defense debuff and is generally not recommended.
Great League | ||
---|---|---|
Single Strike Urshifu is an interesting Fighter; it sacrifices the reliable Fighting-type damage that most others have for relentless Dark-type damage via Sucker Punch. It is a risky Pokemon to use due to its frailty, however. Furthermore, it faces competition from the likes of Pangoro and Primeape, as their access to Sucker Punch allows them to be more flexible options. | ||
Ultra League | ||
The increased bulk of the Ultra League allows Urshifu to live longer so it can get off its Dynamic Punches off more consistently. This allows Urshifu to crack down Ghost- and Steel-type cores more effectively. However, Urshifu still competes with Pangoro in this league, and does not appreciate the presence of Virizion and Cobalion. | ||
Master League | ||
Urshifu's passable stats and incredible moves allow it to find a role in the Master League. The wide coverage afforded by Urshifu's Dark- and Fighting-type STAB attacks can crack down many cores. The Master League is home to many top-tier Psychic-, Ghost-, and Steel-type Pokemon, all of which Urshifu applies great pressure to. Furthermore, it smashes Dialga, Rhyperior, and Kyurem, three metagame staples. However, Urshifu is not an easy Pokemon to build with as its typing has incredibly exploitable weaknesses - including a double weakness to Fairy. |
