PvE Analysis

Oh, you have an opportunity to nab a Shadow Spoink from a Rocket? If you're looking for PvE performance, then don't bother, it's trash.

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

  • Psywave is slightly stronger than Extrasensory, and both are superior to Charge Beam.
  • Psychic outperforms Mirror Coat on offense by a considerable amount.
  • Psywave is on the weak side for defense.
  • Shadow Ball and Dynamic Punch lack STAB and are better for other Pokemon.

Best PvE Defensive Moveset

  • Extrasensory hits harder on defense, but is walled by Dark-type attackers.
  • Charge Beam is inferior stat-wise, but is less likely to be resisted.
  • Shadow Ball is easy to dodge, but provides coverage against the weakness to Ghost-type attackers.
  • Dynamic Punch is strong and provides counter-coverage against Dark Types.
  • Psychic is better than Mirror Coat in every way, and is also the hardest to dodge.

PvP Analysis

Psywave is a much better move than either Extrasensory or Charge Beam, easily making it the best option

Shadow Ball and Dynamic Punch combine to provide impeccable coverage at a moderate cost. Psychic and Mirror Coat are underwhelming

Great League

Shadow Grumpig is a mono-Psychic type with moderate bulk and a strong moveset. Thanks to the addition of Psywave and Dynamic Punch in the Might and Mastery Season, Shadow Grumpig has immediately gone from Zero to Hero is a highly defining threat in the Great League. It can dent just about everything thanks to its wide coverage, though Dark-type Pokemon who aren't weak to Dynamic Punch such as Sableye and Mandibuzz are problematic for it. It's generally not QUITE as good as its non-Shadow counterpart, but it's still great in its own right.

Ultra League

Like in the Great League, Shadow Grumpig is a defining force in the Ultra League thanks to its good overall stats and wide coverage. Though it doesn't have Cresselia's massive bulk, Shadow Grumpig's ability to threaten Steel- and Ghost-type Pokemon more effectively more than makes up for it.

Master League

Shadow Grumpig would look like ham or bacon to the Pokemon that compete in this league.
