PvE Analysis

Sawsbuck suffers from the lack of a proper moveset and insufficient stats to see any use in the meta. At best it's a dex filler, but with four variants that are dependent on seasons, it might be a while before you catch em all.

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

Feint Attack + Solar Beam or TrailblazeBest
  • Feint Attack performs better than Take Down, despite the latter benefiting from STAB.
  • Solar Beam gets STAB, and has the best damage output.
  • Trailblaze is a bit weaker than Solar Beam, but it's far easier to use, meaning it will be optimal at times.
  • Hyper Beam can't be Super Effective against anything, but still hits quite hard.
  • Wild Charge has its niche of being a 2-bar move, but lacks STAB.
  • Megahorn has no use.

Best PvE Defensive Moveset

Feint Attack + Wild Charge or TrailblazeBest
  • Feint Attack has a higher base power, but is resisted by Fighting-type attackers.
  • Take Down is decent on defense, but can't be Super Effective vs anything.
  • Wild Charge is preferred for defense due to it being a 2-bar move.
  • Trailblaze is a decent option as well.
  • The rest of Sawsbuck's charge moves are too slow for defense, though among them Megahorn is the hardest to dodge.

PvP Analysis

Feint Attack + Wild Charge and Trailblaze or Megahorn

Feint Attack sports fairly average stats, but doesn't benefit from STAB. Take Down is one of the worst moves in the game, even with STAB.

Wild Charge costs the least amount of energy, and ca.5n threaten massive damage, but also carries a significant risk due to its self-debuff. Trailblaze offers a relatively inexpensive Charged Move with solid damage thanks to STAB, and the ability to self-buff Attack. Megahorn costs less energy than the remaining options, and can be useful against other Grass-type Pokemon. Solar Beam and Hyper Beam both cost extreme amounts of energy, and aren't generally recommended due to their poor accessibility.

Great League1.5 / 5

Sawsbuck sports a unique Normal/Grass typing, which gives it niche defensive advantages, though its poor bulk is unappealing. The lack of a cheap charge move (energy-wise) and having only average energy generation at best makes Sawsbuck somewhat cumbersome in PvP, often losing to opponents with spammier movesets. Overall not the sharpest tool in the shed, and probably one you can pass on.

Ultra League1 / 5

While Sawsbuck's Normal-typing is useful against common Ghost-types in this league, its slow moveset and difficult coverage options severely holds it back.

Master League0 / 5

Deer meat is possibly very nutritious for dragons and dinosaurs.
