Quaquaval

Fast

PvE Analysis
Quaquaval is one of the Paldean starters, and it's a Pokemon with an okay amount of power behind it. It can perform nicely, even out-pacing select shadows. That said, it also relies very heavily on Hydro Cannon, just like most of the other Water Type starters.
Best PvE Offensive Moveset
Best |
---|
- While it waits for Hydro Cannon, Quaquaval is best utilizing Water Gun and Liquidation
- Aqua Jet is basically Liquidation but worse
- Wing Attack and Aerial Ace can work if you're desperate for Flying coverage, but still isn't great.
- Close Combat is worthless despite Quaquaval's Fighting sub-typing
Best PvE Defensive Moveset
Best |
---|
- Wing Attack is generally the superior defensive option, as it has the highest base power, though Water Gun is still okay depending on the set.
- Liquidation is the best defensive option, followed by Aerial Ace. Remember to mis-match Fast and Charged Moves for maximum coverage.
- Aqua Jet and Close Combat are objectively inferior on defense.
PvP Analysis
Though it lacks STAB, Wing Attack is preferred over Water Gun for its coverage and high energy generation, and it helps set Quaquaval apart from other Water-type Pokemon.
Hydro Cannon* is the most-have move here, as it's Quaquaval's bread-and-butter due to its high raw power and relatively low energy cost. Close Combat is Qauaquaval's strongest coverage option, as it can outright nuke the opposition despite very reasonable energy cost. Quaquaval would LOVE to utilize Aqua Step for its Attack buffing power, but losing one of the above moves is a bit hard to justify.
Great League | |
---|---|
Quaquaval sports a rather unique moveset with pretty good moves to back it up. That said, it doesn't have an absolute killer move to allow it to rise to any sort of notoriety, and doesn't sport much by way of raw capabilities to allow it to stand out. | |

Master League | |
Quaquaval has a hard time standing out from other Water- and Fighting-type options in the Master League, and isn't exactly amazing at compressing both roles into one either. It can potentially give Kyogre and Dialga issues, which is a valuable combination to beat, but Quaquaval is hardly reliable at this to begin with. |
