PvE Analysis

Meloetta Aria Forme is an interesting addition to Pokemon Go. With Mewtwo being the strongest Psychic-type Pokemon since....forever, and arguably the best for the foreseeable future (and probably forever), any new Psychic-types added to the game are ultimately dealt the unfortunate hand of living in Mewtwo's shadow. That doesn't make Melotta bad or useless; it's still a solid Pokemon in the PvE scene if you're tired of seeing and maybe using teams of Mewtwo (and only Mewtwo). As a Mythical Pokemon however, the real challenge is the significantly more tedious task of obtaining Candy XL.

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

Confusion + PsyshockBest
  • Confusion is better for offensive use, and benefits from STAB.
  • Quick Attack isn't a bad move, but can't be Super Effective against anything.
  • Psyshock suits Meloetta's role as a Psychic-type attacker.
  • Hyper Beam is the strongest Charge Move option, but lacks a Super Effective modifier.
  • Dazzling Gleam falls behind without STAB.
  • Thunderbolt has no use here.

PvP Analysis

Quick Attack + Psyshock and Dazzling Gleam or Thunderbolt

Following the September 2022 update, Quick Attack is Meloetta's preferred Fast Attack due to its solid energy gain. However, it does cannot hit anything super effectively. Confusion offers strong damage output with average energy gains, but is doubly resisted by Dark-type Pokemon.

Psyshock costs the least amount of energy, benefits from STAB, and is a decent well-rounded move. Dazzling Gleam costs a lot of energy, but provides coverage against Meloetta's weakness to Dark-type Pokemon. Thunderbolt can help Meloetta bypass certain Steel-, Water-, and Flying-type Pokemon. Hyper Beam demands too much energy to use, but its raw damage can be a devastating surprise.

Great League

Meloetta's CP is too high to participate in Great League.

Ultra League

Meloetta's Normal sub-typing is quite valuable against popular Ghost Pokemon in this league such as Giratina. Confusion is recommended here due to Ghost-types resisting Quick Attack, but Meloetta's Charge Moves hold it back due to their high energy costs, most notably Dazzling Gleam. Meloetta's bulk is also not that impressive for a CP-capped league, making it difficult to justify her use over other Pokemon.

Master League

Meloetta offers a unique set of neutral and positive matchups thanks to its incredible stats, rare typing combination, and good moveset. Thanks to its neutral/positive matchup against Giratina-O, Mewtwo, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Charmers, Zacian, and Kyogre, Meloetta is well suited for covering the long-awkward set of weaknesses that Fighting-type Pokemon struggle with in the Master League metagame. It is a great generalist as well, and doesn't have too many direct counters other than Dialga, or Zarude if it is lacking Dazzling Gleam. Meloetta's biggest issue is that it doesn't really have any dominating matchups, and lacks the ability to snowball games like most other Pokemon in the Master League.

Oh and good luck getting the XLs for it.
