PvE Analysis

Mega Rayquaza represents a power level previously unheard of in Pokemon GO. Not even the Primals WITH A WEATHER BOOST can get near Mega Rayquaza's raw DPS. Mega Mewtwo Y can reach similar levels of DPS, whenever that gets released, but Mega Rayquaza still remains king. The type chart matters little to it; with Dragon Ascent, Mega Rayquaza is often a top counter for things it's dealing neutral damage against, especially in Windy weather. It is THE true monarch of Pokemon GO, and rightfully the star of GO Fest 2023.

With that said, Mega Rayquaza doesn't completely outclass the other top Megas, since they will still offer greater DPS if they have a type advantage, and offer more appropriate type boosts to other players.

Note that Dragon Ascent is required in order for Rayquaza to Mega Evolve, and it can only be obtained through Meteorites. This also means that if you want a Mega Rayquaza that can operate as a Dragon attacker (which you should), then you're going to need to make the investment in a second Charged Move on this Legendary beast.

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

Air Slash + Dragon AscentBest
Dragon Tail + Outrage or Breaking SwipeBest
  • Dragon Ascent* is required for Rayquaza to Mega Evolve. Thankfully, the move is beyond ridiculous, and is what makes Mega Rayquaza the absolute king of Pokemon GO. Pair it with Air Slash to become the top Flying attacker in the game, or with Dragon Tail to make it an outstanding generalist.
  • Breaking Swipe* or Outrage can be paired with Dragon Tail to make Mega Rayquaza the absolute best Dragon Attacker in the game. Both Charged Attacks perform similarly.
  • Hurricane, Aerial Ace, and Ancient Power have no place on Mega Rayquaza.
