PvE Analysis

Fairy has long been considered one of the lesser types in Pokemon Go; it's great on paper, but the Pokemon and moves that are Fairy Type are pretty much all pretty lackluster for the most part. Well, that changes with Mega Gardevoir.

Projected to be the single strongest Fairy Type across all generations, Mega Gardevoir hits the field hard with both Fairy and Psychic Type movesets and can utilize its powerful typing to shut down what are traditionally the most potent movesets for many Dragon and Fighting Type raid bosses while sporting a DPS that's fairly comparable to many of the other top counters in the game. It's a powerful Pokemon that's easily considered to be one of the quintessential Mega Evolutions.

But it does have several problems that have to be addressed. First, its Mega Boost will tend to be fairly low value outside of raid bosses that are 2x weak to Fairy. As stated above, Fairy is not the best type, and a distinct lack of good Fairy Types to boost outside of Shadow Gardevoir is a definite issue. Second, its DPS is great, but definitely below the Dragon Types that it competes with when facing down other Dragons. Third, its Psychic set is noticeably below other top Psychic Type Mega Evolutions, though its dual-resistance to Fighting gives it a leg up on that front. And, finally, its ability to counter Dark Types is a bit dubious due to its Psychic Type neutralizing its Dark resistance and the fact that it has to compete with Fighting Types for most Dark Type raids.

For these reasons, Mega Gardevoir tends to fall through the cracks for most raids; a Mega Evolution that's objectively good, but rarely the optimal choice for a given raid. It's definitely worth getting, but don't expect it to act as the objective ultimate counter when Super Effective.

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

Charm + Dazzling GleamBest
Confusion + PsychicGreat
(Any) + Shadow Ball or Triple AxelGood
  • Charm and Dazzling Gleam is the main reason to use Mega Gardevoir, as they make it the absolute strongest Fairy Type attacker, which is a title that it will keep for the foreseeable future.
  • Confusion and Psychic come together to make Mega Gardevoir one of the better Psychic Type Mega Evolutions. Synchronoise* is objectively inferior.
  • Shadow Ball is a good attack, but the lack of STAB and an abject inability to spread around a Ghost Type Mega Boost makes it an inferior choice.
  • Charge Beam and Triple Axel have niche uses, but they're generally not worth using unless you're desperate.
  • Return is basically worthless.
