PvE Analysis

Remember all of those "don't use Aggron" memes? Well... they're still true, for the most part. Mega Aggron has outstanding staying power, but it's also not exactly the strongest Mega Evolution, falling behind in terms of average DPS. Honestly, the best use for Mega Aggron is spreading around its Steel Type Mega Bonus for a prolonged period of time.

It's worth noting that Mega Aggron is the only Mega Evolution to outright lose a type and not gain another in exchange. The transition into a pure Steel Type is generally seen as a plus here, but in a largely predictable meta like what we have with raids, the loss of Rock's list of resistances can also be a bit of a hinderance. This doesn't make a huge difference in terms of Mega Aggron's viability, but it's interesting to note.

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

Iron Tail + Heavy SlamBest
Smack Down + Meteor BeamGood
  • Unlike normal Aggron, Mega Aggron is pure Steel Type. As such, its only really viable moveset is  Iron Tail and Heavy Slam.
  • Smack Down pairs with Meteor Beam for a Rock Type moveset, but Mega Aggron's lack of a Rock Type STAB makes this an inferior set.
  • Rock Tomb, Dragon Tail, Stone Edge, Meteor Beam, and Thunder are all sub-optimal choices.
