Hisuian Typhlosion
PvE Analysis
Hisuian Typhlosion has a fun design and a Ghost sub-typing to make it stand out from its basic forme. On top of that, it's actually a stronger raid attacker than its normal variant due to its higher Attack stat and nearly identical bulk. However, the fact that it doesn't currently have Blast Burn sort of kills its utility, and leaves it as a fairly mediocre Fire/Ghost Type attacker; basically a worse Chandelure.
Best PvE Offensive Moveset
Hex + Shadow Ball | Best | |
Ember + Overheat | Great |
- Hex + Shadow Ball makes Hisuian Typhlosion a decent Ghost attacker
- Ember + Overheat makes Hisuian Typhlosion an okay Fire attacker. Fire Punch can also be considered as a secondary move as it is a 3-bar move
- Wild Charge is a great move, but has no use on offense.
Best PvE Defensive Moveset
Hex + Fire Punch or Wild Charge | Best |
- Hex generally outperforms Ember due to its higher base power.
- Fire Punch is a 3-bar move and has a fairly early damage window
- Wild Charge is a strong 2-bar move that can be used to deter Water-type Pokemon
- Shadow Ball is a powerful STAB 2-bar move, but it has a late damage window and is easy to dodge
- Overheat is too slow - both in terms of energy and damage window.
PvP Analysis
Hex or Ember + Fire Punch and Shadow Ball or Wild Charge |
Hex and Ember are both mid-tier Fast Attacks. The former offers a greater energy gain, but the latter's consistent damage output can be valuable.
Fire Punch costs the least out of Hisuian Typhlosion's Charged Attacks and serves as its primary baiting move. Shadow Ball is a strong STAB attack that also provides great coverage when combined with its Fire STAB. Wild Charge helps set Typhlosion apart from many other Fire-type Pokemon by providing fantastic coverage against Water-type opponents. Overheat can be ran to annihilate tankier target, but the Attack debuff can make it unreliable, and there is no shortage of explosive Fire-type options out there.
Great League | / 5 | |
As long as Hisuian Typhlosion is raid exclusive, it is nearly impossible to obtain in the Great League. Keyword: nearly. There's an extremely small chance that a Hisuian Typhlosion obtained in a trade from the lowest two friendship levels can fit into the Great League CP cap.Hisuian Typhlosion itself isn't a great Pokemon in this league thanks to its frailty and the existence of many better Fire- and Ghost-type options. Skeledirge and Alolan Marowak also share the same typing as it and outperform it greatly. Nevertheless, it can make for a spicy option, especially if can delete an unsuspecting Water-type enemy with Wild Charge.

Its problems aren't over yet, and Skeledirge also exists in the Ultra League to directly outclass it. The aforementioned issues in the Great League also apply in the Ultra League for Hisuian Typhlosion.

Just because you've seen it in a content creator's video doesn't make it a viable option. |
