PvE Analysis

Some people call the relationship between Heatmor and Durant a "rivalry", but let's be totally honest here: it's an ant and an anteater. You do the math.

Heatmor? More like Heatless! Heatmor is in the same position as virtually all of the regional Pokemon in Go: it falls short of its contemporaries. That's not necessarily a bad thing per-say, as it doesn't leave one region with better Pokemon than others (outside of PVP anyway). Either way; you're better off raising a Flareon than a Heatmor. Unless of course you encounter a Durant; Heatmor is your best choice then.

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

Fire Spin + FlamethrowerBest
  • Fire Spin should be paired with Flamethrower in order to deal maximum damage to Durant.
  • Lick, Thunder Punch, and Power-Up Punch are all inferior move choices. Don't give Durant a chance to win by using them!

Best PvE Defensive Moveset

Fire Spin + Thunderpunch or Power-Up PunchBest
  • Fire Spin outclasses Lick due to its higher base power and STAB. You can lick up Durants after the battle.
  • Thunder Punch provides a 3-bar Charged Move that hits Heatmor's common counters fairly hard.
  • Power-Up Punch is another great option, hitting many relevant Pokemon for Super Effective damage.
  • Flamethrower isn't bad, but its redundant coverage with Fire Spin makes Heatmor all the easier to counter. Though it does make it easier to take down Durant....

PvP Analysis

Fire Spin or Lick + Power-Up Punch and Flamethrower or Thunder Punch

Fire Spin is slightly superior stats-wise, but pulls ahead even further due to STAB. Lick may be beneficial in certain PvP formats due to its typing.

Power-Up Punch may have been nerfed following the September 2019 move rebalance, but it can still be useful for baiting shields and boosting Heatmor's damage output. Flamethrower takes advantage of STAB and is overall a solid move that supports Heatmor's Fire-type role. Thunder Punch can provide coverage against Heatmor's weakness to Water-type opponents, in addition to common fliers.

Great League

Heatmor is an interesting addition to the PvP scene due to its unique moveset, which includes Power-Up Punch and the unusual options of Lick and Thunder Punch. Its moveset options lets Heatmor stand out from traditional Fire-types and offers a different style of play with PuP mechanics. A relatively high ATK stat however, limits Heatmor's overall bulk due to the Great League CP cap, and weaknesses to common typings makes it a risky pick. Overall a unique Pokemon which adds more diverse plays to the PvP scene, but may be stronger in restricted formats which can limit its vulnerabilities.

Ultra League

With a max CP of 2708, Heatmor lacks some stats needed to reach the Ultra League CP cap. While it can be effective against common Steel-types, access to Lick is insufficient in dealing with the meta-centric Giratina or bulkier Psychic-types like Lugia.

Master League

Heatmor doesn't have the stats needed to perform well in Master League.
