PvE Analysis

The Gen 6 Raticate, ladies and gentlemen! In the main series, Diggersby has the ability Huge Power, which doubles its attack stat and makes it very formidable. Here in Go, abilities don't exist, so Diggersby is basically nothing beyond a simple dex filler on the PvE side.

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

  • Mud Shot and Scorching Sands are the way to go with Diggersby.
  • Quick Attack and Hyper Beam have the advantages of being the same type and having STAB, but Normal is the worst type in the game for raids.
  • Dig, Earthquake, and Fire Punch are worthless on Diggersby.

Best PvE Defensive Moveset

  • Quick Attack is superior to Mud Shot on defense.
  • Fire Punch comes out fast and frequently, making it ideal for defense.
  • Dig and Scorching Sands are okay choices as well.
  • Earthquake and Hyper Beam probably won't even see use before Diggersby faints.

PvP Analysis

Mud Shot features superior energy generation, letting Diggersby access its charge moves sooner. Quick Attack falls behind in energy gains and offers stronger Normal-type damage, but this is neutral at best and can't be Super Effective vs anything, making it generally inferior.

Scorching Sands is Diggersby's primary STAB Charged Attack, a reliable, medium cost move that deals respectable damage with a chance to reduce its opponent's Attack. Thanks to Scorching Sands's reliability, Hyper Beam becomes a more viable secondary STAB option to deal very heavy damage to Flying-type Pokemon. Fire Punch can be used to threaten some Pokemon such as Trevenant or Ferrothorn, and is Diggersby's cheapest Charged Attack, but leaves it vulnerable to most Flying-type Pokemon. Earthquake was formerly Diggersby's main Charged Attack but is now generally not worth running over Scorching Sands. Dig is a fairly good move, but is strictly inferior to Scorching Sands.

Great League5 / 5

Thanks to its enormous bulk and unique type combination, Diggersby finds a role as a reliable corebreaker to various Ghost-, Poison- and Steel-type Pokemon. Common targets include Sableye, Trevenant, Galarian Stunfisk, and Bastiodon, and many teams feature a combination of these Pokemon. Access to Fire Punch lets Diggersby further stand out among other Ground-type Pokemon by providing it with a reliable way of denting Grass-type Pokemon, although it is often not enough to outright win the match up.

Pokemon GO: Adventures Abound further improved Diggersby by granting it a reliable, medium cost Ground-type Charged Attack in Scorching Sands. Diggersby can now more viably run Hyper Beam to threaten the Flying-type targets that have plagued it for so long.

Ultra League0 / 5

Diggersby has inadequate stats to compete outside of Great League.

Master League0 / 5

Diggersby isn't an Easter Bunny, but it would still give its opponents free wins.
