PvE Analysis

A Pokemon that would likely fit perfectly within Lewis Carrol's body of work, this little teapot actually has a surprisingly high Attack stat, sitting just a bit behind Gholdengo. In fact, this is a Pokemon that actually can do some work if called on in a raid, but it's also got the issue of being a Ghost Type, which is a type that's infested with powerful Pokemon that can put in huge numbers. This makes Polteageist a middling option for damage output, and really only one worth considering even mild investment in if you lack other options.

It's worth noting that Sinistea has two different variants: Phony and Authentic. As of right now, there is no rea difference between the two aside from a substantial increase in evolution cost for the Authentic variant. However, the Authentic variant is substantially rarer, and may have something to differentiate it from its Phony variant in the future.... though the Main Series hasn't made such a distinction yet.

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

Hex + Shadow BallBest
  • Hex and Shadow Ball is pretty much the only moveset worth considering.
  • Astonish, Sucker Punch, Dark Pulse, Psychic... don't bother.

Best PvE Defensive Moveset

Hex + Dark Pulse, Psychic, or Shadow BallBest
  • Hex stands out as Polteageist's best Fast Move option.
  • Psychic and Dark Pulse both have their advantages and disadvantages. The main problem is that Dark Types wall out Polteageist hard.
  • Shadow Ball is easier to dodge and even easier to wall out than some options, but it's still good for its raw damage output.
  • Skip Astonish and Sucker Punch.

PvP Analysis

Astonish is an excellent Fast Attack, outperforming Hex thanks to its much higher damage output at the cost of slightly less energy gain.

Dark Pulse is Polteageist's cheapest Charged Attack, though it provides very little coverage and mostly just serves to make Polteageist's damage slightly more consistent. Shadow Ball is Polteageist's main Charged Attack, denting anything that doesn't resist it. Psychic offers broader coverage than Dark Pulse, but its DPE is rather poor and it has a greater energy cost.

Great League
Polteageist is yet another Ghost-type Pokemon with Shadow Ball, Dark Pulse, and Psychic as its Charged Attacks. Having an expensive moveset without really any coverage options dooms Polteageist to unviability when considering how fragile it is. Use better Ghost-type Pokemon such as Galarian Corsola or Drifblim.
Ultra League
Polteageist is just a worse Dusknoir, who already doesn't see much play because better Ghost-type Pokemon like Drifblim exist.
Master League
It's probably not your cup of tea in here.
