Raichu

PvE Analysis
Raichu isn't as iconic as Pikachu, and its use in the meta is way less significant than other big-name Electric Types. While it does have access to a powerful moveset, the lack of sufficient stats makes it a poor choice compared to the competition. Maybe keep a bunch with fancy hats if that's your thing, but it's probably not a good idea to invest Stardust into Raichu.
Best PvE Offensive Moveset
Thunder Shock + Wild Charge | Best |
---|
- Thunder Shock is superior to Spark on offense, though their performance is very similar.
- Wild Charge is Raichu's best charge move, superior to Thunder Punch
- Brick Break, Trailblaze, and Skull Bash have no use on Raichu.
Best PvE Defensive Moveset
Charm or Volt Switch + Wild Charge, Brick Break, or Trailblaze | Best |
---|
- Charm hits very hard, has a relatively early damage window, and offers meaningful coverage.
- Volt Switch hits even harder due to STAB, though it's more easily dodged and doesn't cover against common attackers.
- Trailblaze isn't great, but it offers valuable counter-coverage against Ground Types.
- Wild Charge is on par with Thunder Punch, trading damage for lower energy cost.
- Brick Break is the hardest to dodge, provides meaningful coverage, but isn't a very strong move.
- Skull Bash as a 1-bar move is not likely to be used before Raichu faints.
PvP Analysis
Thunder Shock* or Spark + Wild Charge and Brick Break or Thunder Punch |
---|
The legacy Thunder Shock is generally superior to Spark due to greater energy generation, which lets Raichu access its powerful charge moves sooner. The latter can still be used, though it's not as ideal. Charm doesn't fit Raichu's role, though it can catch opponents off guard.
Wild Charge is the primary charge move for Raichu, threatening huge damage against many opponents if unshielded. Brick Break offers some coverage against some counter-picks and common Steel-types, though from a stats perspective it's one of the worst charge moves in the game. Thunder Punch can also be a viable option, though you lose some coverage.
Great League | |
---|---|
Raichu’s got a pretty high attack stat compared to its defenses, and that’s not a good thing. This glass cannon is gonna cost you some shields if it’s gonna accomplish anything, and even what it can accomplish isn’t much. If you want a Pokémon to fire off Electric-type attacks, use Melmetal, Lanturn, or (Legacy) Discharge Magneton. | |
Ultra League | |
Raichu really doesn't stand much of a chance against the meta threats of the Ultra League. | |
Master League | |
Raichu is far too weak to compete here. |
