Pyroar
PvE Analysis
Pyroar may look formidable, but it's really not. Its attack stat is too low to compete with other Fire Types. It does have the unique feature of also being a Normal Type, but that offers absolutely no real utility outside of random Ghost Type coverage moves, and even then it also leaves it weak to Fighting Type moves. It's best to just leave this Pyroar lion around your box!
Best PvE Offensive Moveset
- Fire Fang benefits from STAB and fulfills a Fire-type role.
- Take Down also gets STAB, but Normal-type moves can't be Super Effective vs anything.
- Overheat is the best charge move available, and synergizes well with its Fire typing.
- Flame Charge is a poor move, but can still be somewhat viable if TMs or stronger Pokemon are lacking.
- Solar Beam is strong, but doesn't suit Pyroar.
- Dark Pulse is also useless.
Best PvE Defensive Moveset
Fire Fang or Take Down + Flame Charge or Dark Pulse | Best |
---|
- Fire Fang is better for defense due to its higher base power.
- Take Down can't be Super Effective vs anything, but it can have better performance due to being off-type with Pyroar's best Charged Move option.
- Flame Charge can be used frequently as a 3-bar move, but is painfully slow and easy to dodge.
- Dark Pulse is resisted by Fighting-type attackers, but otherwise will most likely be unresisted.
- Overheat and Solar Beam are too slow for defense.
PvP Analysis
Incinerate + Flame Charge and Overheat or Dark Pulse |
---|
Incinerate focuses on high damage output and energy generation alike, making it a great Fast Move option,
Flame Charge isn't particularly strong, but benefits from STAB and offers a guaranteed buff to ATK, even when shielded. Overheat is recommended for its incredible damage threat, though it can be risky to use due to its self-debuff. Dark Pulse lacks STAB and isn't particularly valuable for a Fire-type Pokemon, but offers Dark-type coverage which can be useful for when Fire-type attacks would be resisted.
Great League | 1.5 / 5 |
---|---|
Pyroar sports a unique Fire/Normal typing which isn't particularly complimentary, but gives it unique resistances that can be useful in certain niche formats. A high ATK results in poor bulk which typically is unfavorable due to how CP is calculated, though in Pyroar's situation isn't necessarily a bad thing as it increases Fire Fang's strong STAB damage. However, Pyroar's fragility will cause him to demand shields as he can't tank damage very well. Slow shield pressure from Pyroar's moveset holds him back from competing well in the meta, with notable struggles against Pokemon with counter coverage like Registeel and Chesnaught. | |
Ultra League | 0 / 5 |
Pyroar's Normal sub-typing is useful in Ultra League due to common Ghost Pokemon in the meta, though this also exposes a weakness to equally common Fighting-types. Aside from this niche, Pyroar doesn't have much to offer compared to relevant meta Fire-types, as its fragile bulk and slow charge moves hold it back significantly. | |
Master League | 0 / 5 |
Pyroar lacks stats for Master League, and its issues with its moveset haven't magically disappeared either. Wins against Glaceon, Metagross, and Magnezone are to be expected, though the latter two can win if Pyroar lacks shields, which is rather discouraging. |
