PvE Analysis

One of the first Mega Pokemon released into Pokemon Go, Mega Venusaur sets the playing field for Grass-types in the PvE meta. While it's not the most powerful Mega Pokemon in the game, it's still considerably stronger than most existing Grass-types, not to mention the boost it provides to the raid attacking party due in part to its high average TDO is valuable. Its Poison-typing unfortunately isn't as useful, and it's often better to look into exploiting other weaknesses whenever possible.

However, Mega Venusaus is one Mega Evolution that's been a bit forgotten by time. Mega Sceptile outclasses it by a large degree in terms of DPS, and can occasionally out-TDO it as well due to its situationally superior sub-typing. Still, there are occasions when Mega Venusaur can pull ahead in terms of average performance, so having one waiting for a free Mega Evolution can pay off.

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

Vine Whip or Razor Leaf + Frenzy Plant*Best
  • Vine Whip is on par with Razor Leaf on attack; though they’re very different moves, they end up close in cycle DPS.
  • Frenzy Plant has absurdly high damage for a 2-bar charge move and is optimal.
  • Solar Beam is frequently superior to Petal Blizzard due to its massive base power.
  • Sludge Bomb has little use on an offensive Venusaur.
  • Return has no use on an offensive Venusaur.
