PvE Analysis

Fearow can operate as an early-game budget Flying Type attacker, but honestly it's just not worth investing any stardust in. Its performance is terribly lackluster, and it provides no niches. Even Pidgeot, the Route 1 beginner bird of beginner birds, can Mega Evolve to give it a niche that's arguably worth dropping Stardust in. Unfortunately, Fearow is just plainly one of the worst Flying Types of Generation 1/Kanto.

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

Peck + FlyBest
  • Peck and Fly make for Fearow's best offensive moveset. Just about everything else can be ignored.
    • Sky Attack is good as well, but it's a bit weaker than Fly.

Best PvE Defensive Moveset

Peck or Steel Wing + Drill Run, Twister, or Aerial AceBest
  • Peck is effectively Fearow's strongest fast move on defense thanks to STAB, and it also has higher energy gains.
  • Steel Wing provides solid defensive damage and can punish Ice and Rock Types
  • Drill Run maims the majority of Rock, Electric, and Steel Types that would seek to prey on their advantageous matchups Vs. Flying Types
  • Twister* is great on defense due to its low energy cost and great neutral coverage.
  • Aerial Ace comes out frequently and has STAB, but can leave Fearow easily walled if combined with Peck.
  • Sky Attack and Fly are stronger, but they take longer to charge up

PvP Analysis

Steel Wing + Fly and Drill Run

Fearow's Fast Moves are the primary reason for its lackluster performance. Although Steel Wing doesn't benefit from STAB, its parameters far outclass Peck's.

Fly is actually quite strong with STAB, and is Fearow's main Charge Move with a moderate energy cost. Drill Run is valuable for its coverage, especially against Fearow's weaknesses to Electric and Rock Pokemon, as well as common Steel-types. Aerial Ace is a viable option over Fly as it costs slightly less, but it deals significantly less damage.. Sky Attack, after receiving two nerfs, has now fallen to a point where Fly outclasses it both in terms of damage AND energy. Twister is just bad.

Great League

Fearow's Charge Moves are highly desirable for Flying-type Pokemon, but this bird is ultimately held down due to its middling Fast Moves and lack of bulk stats. Peck is downright horrendous, while Steel Wing is pretty alright but nothing spectacular. Additionally, Fearow competes with numerous other Flying-type options in Great League, many of which offer more reliable damage and/or superior bulk. With that said, Fearow's coverage is rather unique and it is a fun spice pick, but don't expect it to take names consistently.

Ultra League

Fearow's max CP is 2257, which is insufficient for this league.

Master League

Fearow? More like Zero.
