PvE Analysis

Solrock is a somewhat iconic Pokemon, and a bit rare due to the fact that it and Lunatone change places in the Northern/Southern hemispheres for each equinox. However, it's genuinely not worth investing in.

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

Rock Throw + Rock SlideBest
Psywave + PsychicBest
  • Rock Throw should be paired with Rock Slide, the bread and butter Rock-type set.
  • Psywave can be paired with Psychic, though Lunatone is poor as a Psychic attacker.
  • Confusion is a great Psychic Type Fast Move, but is inferior to Psywave.
  • Solar Beam doesn’t do much for Solrock on offense.

Best PvE Defensive Moveset

Confusion + Rock SlideBest
  • Confusion is the best defensive fast move in the game.
  • Rock Throw isn’t too shabby, but it’s inferior even when Confusion is resisted.
  • Rock Slide is the optimal defensive charge move, with high power and 2 bars.
  • Psychic is good on defense, but it's redundant with Confusion.
  • Psywave pales in comparison to Confusion on defense.
  • Solar Beam is 1-bar, and will probably not get off before Solrock faints.

PvP Analysis

Confusion + Rock Slide & Psychic OR Solar Beam

Confusion is a great move in PvP, hitting especially hard thanks to its STAB boost when combined with Solrock's Psychic typing while also giving very reasonable energy gains. To compliment it, Rock Slide and Psychic both provide solid damage plus STAB for reasonable energy cost, allowing Solrock to stay threatening throughout the match. Solar Beam is objectively stronger and hits some of Solrock's counters for huge damage, but its high energy cost means Solrock likely won't be able to unleash it before dropping. Still, if you can store a bit of energy before the opponent gets in their counter, it can spell death for a lot of Pokemon when shields are down.

Great League1 / 5

Solrock... is not good in PvP. It has a nice moveset overall, but not nice enough to make up for its sub-par typing and slightly offensively-oriented stats. It can be useful in some cases, but its niches are better served by other Pokemon.

Ultra League0 / 5

Giratina says "Hi".

Master League0 / 5

Seeing Solrock hit the field is sure to make your opponent happy (if a bit confused) at least!
