Shadow Latios

PvE Analysis
Latios piqued the interest of many on its release, though the hype has long since died down. Its moveset is fast and nimble, but also one of the weaker movesets that a Dragon can have in raids, which limits it heavily. It's still decent, but not great. As a Psychic Type, it has some real potential and can be a decent option, especially given the resistances that Dragon brings, but it's still not outstanding.

- Dragon Breath is preferred over Zen Headbutt for yielding higher cycle DPS and being much more dodge-friendly.
- That said, Psychic has synergy with Zen Headbutt and makes Latios a good Psychic attacker against targets weak to them such as Machamp.
- Aura Sphere has strong enough stats to make Shadow Latios a competent Fighting attacker despite lacking STAB. Pair it with Dragon Breath.
- Luster Purge* is worse than Psychic.
- Dragon Claw's 3 bars with short duration makes Latios an efficient low-motivation gym sweeper.
- Solar Beam is largely worthless.
PvP Analysis

Dragon Breath grants supreme energy gains and still good damage, while Zen Headbutt is one of the worst moves in the game.
Aura Sphere is a Fighting-type clone of Hydro Cannon, making it one of the best moves in the game due to its cheap cost and high DPE. Luster Purge, Latios's signature move, is an incredibly powerful STAB Charged Attack that can occasionally leave a Defense debuff on the opposing Pokemon. Dragon Claw has been reworked to a mid-expensive costing move; it can be used to better pressure opposing Dragon- and Psychic-type Pokemon, but it leaves Latios vulnerable to Fairies. Psychic has very poor DPE and is not worth being slightly cheaper than Mist Ball. Solar Beam is far too expensive for any serious use.

---|---|---|
With the September 2025 Move Rebalance, Latios now wields a powerful moveset in the Great League. However, his sister Latias is better suited for this, as her defensively oriented stat spread grants her greater stat product in the Great League. | ||
Ultra League | ||
Also outclassed by Latias here. | ||
Master League | ||
Without a CP cap restricting its stats, Latios can shine in the Master League, moreso than Latias. Although it has heavy competition with many other powerful Dragons, Latios carves a niche with its rapid fire Aura Spheres, which applies great pressure onto them before they can reach their lethal Charged Attacks. Latios's Psychic-typing is more of a curse than a blessing, however, as Pokemon such as Lunala and Dawn Wings Necrozma can make its life difficult. |
