PvE Analysis

Latios piqued the interest of many on its release, though the hype has long since died down. Its moveset is fast and nimble, but also one of the weaker movesets that a Dragon can have in raids, which limits it heavily. It's still decent, but not great. As a Psychic Type, it has some real potential and can be a decent option, especially given the resistances that Dragon brings, but it's still not outstanding.

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

Dragon Breath + Dragon ClawBest
Zen Headbutt + PsychicBest
  • Dragon Breath is preferred over Zen Headbutt for yielding higher cycle DPS and being much more dodge-friendly.
  • That said, Psychic has synergy with Zen Headbutt and makes Latios a good Psychic attacker against targets weak to them such as Machamp.
  • Luster Purge is worse than Psychic.
  • Dragon Claw's 3 bars with short duration makes Latios an efficient low-motivation gym sweeper.
  • Solar Beam is largely worthless.

PvP Analysis

Dragon Breath + Dragon Claw and Psychic or Luster Purge*Best

The combination of Dragon Breath and Dragon Claw is a must for any pokemon that gets access to it: the former offers consistently high damage output and the latter is very quick, only requiring 35 Energy to fire. Psychic is a great secondary move to cover against opponents that resist Dragon damage, such as Fairy-types. Luster Purge is much more powerful than Psychic for only 5 more energy, and is a great late-game nuke. Solar Beam has a prohibitive Energy cost and doesn't provide enough coverage to be worth the cost.
