Shadow Galarian Weezing

PvE Analysis
Galarian Weezing's introduction to Pokemon Go caught many by surprise. There was no official announcement ahead of time, nor did anyone have experience with it from the main series because Sword & Shield was released right around the same time. A unique Fairy/Poison typing is interesting, but a closer look at Galarian Weezing's poor stats and pitiful moveset leaves a lot to be desired.
Best PvE Offensive Moveset
Best |
---|
- Fairy Wind synergizes well to enable Galarian Weezing for a budget Fairy-type role.
- Tackle is a pretty bad move.
- Play Rough takes advantage of STAB to offer the most damage output in general.
- Sludge isn't great even with STAB, but it's good vs Grass and Fairy Pokemon.
- Brutal Swing is objectively great, but it doesn't have much synergy with Galarian Weezing.
- Overheat is a powerful move, but doesn't have any synergy nor STAB.
- Hyper Beam can't be Super Effective against anything. TM this.
Best PvE Defensive Moveset
Best | ||
---|---|---|
Good |
- Fairy Wind is the fast move of choice due to its higher damage output, especially with STAB.
- Tackle can still work okay if you want to use Play Rough.
- Brutal Swing has an early damage window, great neutral coverage, and is a 3-bar move, making it the defensive Charged Move of choice.
- Acid is very similar after STAB is factored in, but is more widely resisted.
- Play Rough has a very similar early damage window, but is used less frequently as a 2-bar. At least it hits harder.
- Overheat is less likely to be used before Galarian Weezing faints, and is quite easy to dodge. But if it lands it could KO Steel-type attackers.
- Hyper Beam is way too slow to be useful for defense.
PvP Analysis
Fairy Wind is a strong Fast Move with great neutral coverage and outstanding energy generation, making it the Fast Move of choice. This pairs with Brutal Swing's decently high power, great neutral coverage, and extremely low energy cost for quick barrages of Dark Type damage. Sludge is a wonderful move after its buffs and is now Galarian Weezing's main weapon in neutral situations. Overheat can be used to disintegrate Steel-type Pokemon that would otherwise give Galarian Weezing problems, while Play Rough enhances Galarian Weezing's Fairy-type damage output so it can actually beat Dragon- and Dark-type Pokemon more consistently
Great League | ||
---|---|---|
Galarian Weezing sports a unique Poison/Fairy typing, respectable overall stats, and some colorful coverage options. Dark and Poison are great options for general neutral coverage, while the threat of Overheat can keep Steel-type Pokemon and Drapion on their toes. Galarian Weezing's biggest downside is that it really wishes it can run more than two Charged Attacks, as it sacrifices important matchups for each move that it drops. Overheat can also be rather bait dependent due to its harsh self-debuff. | ||
Ultra League | ||
Galarian Weezing's coverage, bulk, and spamminess make it a powerful Swiss army knife in the Ultra League. Its moveset variety leaves it a total guessing game as to whether foes like Registeel, Alolan Sandslash, and Venusaur and others will drop to a surprise Overheat or if Greninja and Malamar faint to Play Rough. However, it should be noted that while the ceiling for Overheat is high, the floor is just as low, as Galarian Weezing may struggle to perform consistently as it is somewhat bait reliant and has to deal with Overheat's self-debuff. Of course, the spamminess of Brutal Swing is a threat in its own right--pair it with threats which force shields to make the most of its nuke moves, or use fast move pressure to go shields up and spam away! | ||

In Master League, the only thing this Pokemon is smoking is defeat. |
