Machoke
PvP Analysis
Karate Chop + Cross Chop* and Dynamic Punch or Return
Karate Chop is the superior fast move of choice, with greater damage output and significantly faster energy gains compared to Low Kick.
Cross Chop requires an Elite TM, but is recommended for its lesser energy cost and better damage compared to Brick Break. Dynamic Punch costs the same energy as Submission, but has significantly better damage output, and with STAB is also Machoke's most powerful charge move. Return is only available when Machoke is Purified, but offers a neutral damage option for when Fighting-type damage would be resisted (with the exception of Ghost Pokemon).

---|---|
Fighting-type coverage is valuable against the meta, which is Machoke's best (and only) specialty. The January 2021 GBL update improved the energy gains of Karate Chop, but unfortunately barely any meta-viable Pokemon has access to this move, letting Machoke stand out from the crowd. Compared to its evolution, Machamp, Machoke is a downgrade due to its lack of adequate coverage, and lesser damage output from its fast move options, despite Machoke's slightly bulkier stats in a CP-capped league. The costly requirement of using an Elite TM to access the more consistent performing Cross Chop also helps to discourage Machoke from seeing any play. | |
Ultra League | |
Machoke may be good at its chokes, but it's not yet a champ. | |
Master League | |
If evolving to Machamp is too costly, then Master League isn't meant for you. |
