PvE Analysis

Hatterene is largely seen as something of a Galarian Gardevoir, and with good reason. Hatterene and Gardevoir have the exact same Attack stats and Fairy/Psychic Type movesets, meaning their actual performance is very similar, to the point were these two Pokemon can be seen as interchangeable. However, Hatterene also has lower bulk than Gardevoir, so it will tend to be a bit worse. It also has an additional viable Fast Move option for its Psychic Type moveset with Psycho Cut, but these Pokemon are far more well known for their Fairy Type performance.

Note that Hatterene has a Gigantamax forme in the main series, so it's probably worth keeping an eye on this Pokemon moving forward....

Best PvE Offensive Moveset

  • Charm and Dazzling Gleam makes up Hatterene's bread-and-butter moveset, with strong Fairy Type performance.
  • Confusion or Psycho Cut pair with Psychic for Psychic Type coverage.
  • Psyshock and Power Whip are easy skips.

Best PvE Defensive Moveset

  • Charm and Confusion are both great on defense, though the former tends to pull ahead a bit due to its stronger neutral coverage.
  • Psyshock is generally the top pick here due to how frequently it comes out. It should definitely be paired with Charm for off-type coverage.
  • Dazzling Gleam and Power Whip are viable as well, though it's best to not pair the former with Charm.
  • Psychic is basically Psyshock, but worse when it comes to defense, while Psycho Cut just isn't good on defense in general.

PvP Analysis

Generally speaking, Charm is the Fast Move of choice, as it allows Hatterene to score heavy hits in short order in a manner similar to, once again, Gardevoir. Psycho Cut is worth some consideration for its great energy gains, but its average performance will tend to fall behind Charm. Finally, Confusion splits the difference to a certain degree, but it also tends to fall behind in terms of actual performance.

Psyshock is a must-have for Hatterene, as it's the cheapest Charged Move that it can muster, meaning it can potentially leverage some damage output and shield pressure outside of simply utilizing Charm throughout the entire battle. Power Whip is the best secondary option due to its relatively low energy cost, only taking one more Charm use on average to utilize, and coverage against Ground and Water Types, both of which tend to be pretty relevant in most leagues.

Great League2.5 / 5
Hatterene is largely interchangeable with Gardevoir in the Great League, though it generally falls behind. Its lower natural bulk and identical Attack stat means that its stat total at or near 1500cp will tend to be below Gardevoir. Really, the only reason to consider Hatterene over Gardevoir is if Power Whip's coverage proves more valuable than Triple Axel.
Ultra League0 / 5
Gardevoir begins to genuinely pull ahead even more in the Ultra League, leaving Hatterene with few niches to call its own.
Master League2.5 / 5
Fairy coverage can be very valuable in the Master League, though Hatterene once again does the same job as Gardevoir, but not quite as well most of the time.
