A Bountiful Thanksgiving Event: Double Stardust/XP, Ditto, New Tracker, and more!

Happy Thanksgiving, and boy, did Niantic have an Pokemon GO event for you!  Typical of Niantic, nearly everything went unannounced, but GamePress is here to help!

Double Stardust/XP for Thanksgiving Week

Double XP is live! All sources for XP and Stardust are doubled between November 23 and 30.

Niantic has confirmed that with a lucky egg active, your experience is quadrupled. If you have been sitting on a lucky egg and a pile of Pokemon candies, this week is the time to burn them all for a mass evolve session.

Incubators and daily gym rewards also provide double stardust this week. If you have extra incubators lying around, you might as well use them!

Pokemon CP Update

You may have logged in to Pokemon GO recently and found your Pokemon roster completely reshuffled, with Pokemon of wildly different CP.

No, you haven't been hacked. Instead, Niantic rebalanced Pokemon GO. Now instead of slow generalists (like Snorlax) dominating the game, speedy specialists (like Alakazam) do.

This balance update has huge combat implications, which GamePress and the larger community are still digesting. Further reading material on this subject:

Many other articles and site updates are being worked here at GamePress on as we speak. As always, you'll find a rich, ongoing discussion on the GamePress Q&A and TheSilphRoad Subreddit.

Ditto Found

Trainer Kvothealar has caught the world's first Ditto in Pokemon GO!

Ditto is a unique, transforming Pokemon, the last non-legendary from the first Pokemon Generation missing from our Pokedex. The total number of catchable Pokemon now stands at 146, including the 4 regional exclusives. Of the first generation, only the three legendary birds, Mew, and Mewtwo remain unaccounted for.

You can read more about Kvothealar's Ditto misadventure as reported on Reddit. The secret to catching Ditto, according to Kvothealar, is:

Swear to god! I just caught some dumb Rattata and got a cutscene.

Nearby Tracker Rollout

The "new" Nearby Tracker, which has been beta tested in San Francisco for the past four months, is now finally rolling out for many parts of the world.

The new nearby tracker works by linking Pokemon to PokeStops they're near. You can track specific Pokemon, and the PokeStop it's near will be marked on your world map.

The official Presser:

Trainers,

After reviewing your feedback, we have made some changes to the Nearby feature we were originally testing in San Francisco, California. We have changed the feature to only show the Nearby feature if a PokéStop is close to your location. In addition, we have also made changes to the way Sightings now works.

We will be expanding the ability for Trainers to test this updated version of the features and provide us with feedback. Starting today, Trainers in the following areas will now be able to use the new Nearby and Sightings functionality:

  • United States of America: All states west of the Mississippi River (except Hawaii and Alaska)
  • Canada: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the western half of Ontario.
  • Australia: All states and territories

Your feedback submitted to all of our official social media accounts and posted in other channels is important to us. We will continue to review community feedback and make changes if necessary.

Our first six months has been nothing short of exciting and your continued support has been inspiring. We have a lot of content, features, and functionality that we will be implementing over the coming months and years. Our goal is to to always improve on existing features where we can while also releasing exciting new content and functionality.
