Overview

Wow, this feels like a different boss than the first time Rayquaza came around. In its initial run, dragons were king (I guess Jynx was queen?) and it was a very difficult duo. Outrage was a very much dreaded set. Now? Outrage is still brutal, but not like it once was. The CP rebalance made this raid much easier, and the type effectiveness change switches the dominant answer from Dragons to Ice Types.

For the first time, Ice is showing its true power in the PoGo world, and it’s the recently added Mamoswine that leads the way. It is so powerful that level 20 versions can theoretically duo a Ray, though the number of deaths makes this pretty impractical. Mamoswine is so good and very cheap to obtain, especially if you participated in the recent Community Day. You can get 6 weather boosted Swinub, bring them up, and have a duo ready with minimal investment. IVs don’t make a material difference. Two teams of 6 0/0/0 level 30 Mamoswine can easily duo vs all movesets. There’s no excuse to run this in large groups.

The snowy solo is impossible. The “fake” solo (fight with a best friend who doesn't do any damage) in snow is doable assuming minimal boss regen, though the number of deaths vs Outrage is likely too high.

Approach

Team composition

  • As many Mamoswine as possible

  • Don’t have Mamo? No Problem. There are a couple dozen ice & dragon attackers that are duo viable at level 40.

  • Be wary of re-entry, especially vs Outrage. A strong second team is recommended as it saves time over max reviving, and should be easy to build given the number of options available

Dodging strategy

  • Dodging is a luxury but not required.

  • Be very careful about activating the dodge glitch vs Outrage

Best Raid Boss Counters

Counters viable for Best Friends at level 25
Mamoswine Mamoswine
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
  • Win % will be near zero vs Outrage for Mamoswine in the 20s due to an extremely high number of deaths.
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
  • While Mamoswine is better at higher levels, Level 25 Mewtwo performs quite well, even vs Air Slash/Outrage!
  • Will probably need to be in the 30s to be viable vs Dragon Tail /Outrage.
