I'm not holding back on powering anything up for Gen IV, but am holding back and will hold back on things because of Community day. 3 98% Gastley, and 2 perfect Rhyhorn/Rhydon because Shadow Claw and Rock Wrecker or Smack Down could be CD locked. ....not to mention I'll never evolve a starter outside CD again

What investments are you holding back because Gen IV is coming soon?
For me, a third hatched 98% Machop, a 93% research Snorlax with ZH/BS, a lucky 91% Gengar with SC/DP and a second 93% Tyranitar with SD/Cr.
Besides the risk that they may be surpassed, made less relevant or (for Gengar) released again, I fear that my future Rhyperiors, Mamoswines, etc. may need more than 1.5M dust and 16 CTMs.

Just Gastly because of Shadow Claw. But I don’t invest in anything not currently meta relevant. When the dragons of gen IV become raid bosses I will be investing in whatever I need.
Why wouldn’t you invest in a 98% Machop?! Machamp can’t possibly get any better. It has the best moves for fighting, and almost for any type. Counter is an excellent fast move and a two bar Dynamic Punch is amazing. I don’t see what could be better. They may give it Focus blast of maybe a one bar 150 SuperPower, but Dynamic Punch will still be better.
I already maxed out a perfect Machamp and my first 98%, while my second 98% (and a few with lower IVs) are at level 30. A third maxed Machamp would make an immediate impact as gyms in Singapore are very competitive. The key question is, would my future Rhyperiors, Mamoswines, etc. need the 225k dust as much or more? Guess I could just evolve it first since that does not cost any dust and I would find out whether I need to spend CTMs on it.
Bc I traded it from my 40 to my 36. My 36 is worthless to me right now bc nothing I need its help to raid. My battery runs low, so hate catching stuff on it, too. Payback I did a boosted Porygon raid this afternoon, obviously solo on both accounts. I got a 1077cp (crap). It got a 14a/15/15.
I traded it to my 40 bc that 36 only had 26 candy anyway (I have 300). As ultra friends it went thru the trade machine: 15a/14/14! Was not a lucky pokemon, but kept high IVs.
Did the upgrade evolve and got Flying hidden/solar beam. I already had a level 20 P2 14a/15/15 fire/zap. New one is better
There's nothing I'm holding back on powering up exactly, mostly because I have nothing in urgent need of powering up that stands to be outclassed. I'm using this time to focus on a few luckies I've gotten: an IB Lapras, shiny DM Dragonite, and shiny Gyarados.
As far as evolves go, my answer's pretty much the same as anyone else's. Rhyhorn, Gastly, and any CD likely candidates such as the starters, Bagon, Beldum make that group up.
I usually power up according to need so basically not powering up anything much at the moment, last weeks 96% mewtwo being the exception. I got a 100% machop from a field task the other day and have just left it sitting there next to the 6 maxed powered up ones i have which include 2 100%ers already.
Another fire mon is tempting but given non of my moltress are that great and moltress day is coming up, plus heatran on the horizon the dust is just starting to pile up.
I have mostly accumulated dust for some time, but have consolidated by maxing out some of my high level Mons regardless of their uses. I have also improved some of my defensive Mons (a second maxed Blissey, and high levels Lapras IS/IB, and Steelix). I expect to spend quite a lot of dust when g4 is released, but not on Rhyperior, as I have an "armada" of high level Rhydons waiting to be evolved..
I've stopped powering anything up (outside of Research Tasks) until I've accumulated about 500,000 Stardust so that when Gen 4 does drop, I'll have enough Stardust to power up a fair number of Pokémon (5+ Rhyhorn, 5+ Piloswine, 4+ Roselia, 3+ Tangela, 2 Togepi, and potentially a few Sneasel and Murkrow, most at level 28 or higher) if they become worth powering up.
Beyond that, I'm pretty good for my Pokémon. The only ones I'd be powering up right now if there was no Gen 4 on the horizon are Entei and Raikou, but I don't have the Rare Candies for them anyway. (Moltres as well, when Moltres gets its Raid Day)
