The toughest gym defender lineup?

This is what I came up with:
1. Blissey (Zen Headbutt + Dazzling Gleam)
2. Gyarados (Waterfall + Hydro Pump)
3. Steelix (Dragon Tail + Crunch)
4. Dragonite (Dragon Tail + Outrage)
5. Metagross (Zen Headbutt + Meteor Mash)
6. Milotic (Dragon Tail + Surf)

Feel free to suggest your own!

I don't agree with Gyaradaos and Dragonite, I find them very easy to deal with in the gyms, due to their double weaknesses. They are usually my fastest victories. Even a relatively low cp pokemon of the right elemental type (lightning for Gyrados, ice for Dragonite) can deal with them in most instances. If you use a same or higher cp mon then it is a no contest. Double weakness is super exploitable.

I agree with the others, though. Especially remove golden berry feeding Blissey. Argh. Even with lvl 30+ fighting set machamps it is annoying to deal with. I gave up when I found the Blissey back at full hp after 2-3 KOs in most instances. And, unlike Chansey, Blissey can put some good damage on fighting pokemons with super effective attacks if you miss your dodge. A total waste of time, battery and potions. Frustrating.

I don't know how the new cp update nerfed Blissey, though. Is it now less annoying to deal with?

I agree with the fact that double weaknesses are easily exploitable. Gyarados and Dragonite need Crunch and Dragon Claw in order to put in some real damage.

But will you bring in an ice attacker just to murder 1 Dragonite? I personally wouldn't, because ice attackers aren't that good for anything else unless you have a Mewtwo with two charge moves.

Pretty standard gym set up with a couple of Pokémon with double weaknesses.... Meh hope you got a lot of Golden Raspberries

Wasn't too hard to think about but pretty much tyranitar kills two (dragonite+metagross), raikou kills two (milotic and gyarados) and machamp kills two (blissey+steelix)

I wouldn't put anything with the same typing twice like steel and water in your lineup.

Not sure how Tyranitar kills Dragonite and Metagross:

Dark is neutral into Dragonite and SE into Metagross.
Rock is SE into Dragonite but NVE into Metagross.
Tyranitar takes neutral damage from Dragon and SE from Steel.

You are correct that Gyarados and Milotic are both weak to Raikou. Is there any defender that can wall Fire-types without being weak to Raikou? (Rhyperior is weak to Ground, just like Metagross, and is also vulnerable to Machamp.)

Lanturn is only weak to grass/ground, neutral to electric and resistant to fire.

Quagsire/Swampert is double weak to grass but resists both fire and electric.

Magcargo has too many weaknesses, including double ground and water.

Flygon is 2x weak to ice but resists fire 1x and electric 2x.

The toughest gym leader lineup is nothing but over 100 grbs fed to 1 pokemon by over 10 accounts with around 400 berries each. You CANNOT beat this, Ever.

I’ve battled a Snorlax over and over again for about 2 hours in a blue gym. They used up about 100 GRBs. The snorlax was around level 25. The most surprising part, the snorlax didn’t even belong to a multi-accounter.

Another time, I battled through a red gym, sweeping through all 6 defenders for 3 hours to grind my gold gym badge. Later, I found out it was a 6-account multi accounter. They used up over 150 GRBs.

These were just the 2 most extreme cases. I’ve had many long fights with multi-accounters, usually for farming gym badge points. Sometimes they give up and stop feeding, and I leave the gym white.

I’ve heard of people battling multi account spoofers for 8 hours and using up over 2000 of their GRBs at once, but they somehow never run out of them.

If you want a gold badge for that gym, slot in your defender, then spam 60 normal berries every 30 minutes until your defender is knocked out.

With the nerf to GRB drop rates, we can hope that they will finally run out and have to spend real money on raids to replendish their supplies.

I find that spoofers don’t GRB. They let you take the gym and then just take it back. If you take it again or defend it right away then they’ll just try again in half an hour. If you and your friends out high CP good defenders then they’ll take it late that night when you sleep.

Yes, you can, if you know the right technique. 400 people GRing anything can be beaten if the attackers time things right. Not gonna say how here, but it's doable.

That said, yes, GR are the best defense. Not perfect, but best.

lets go, put your 10 CP ratatta and try to do that. Defenders mean a lot, is not the same to GRB a 2500 blissey than a 1000 anything , i can kill your low level pokemon without you could berry him

Just before PvP it was very intuitive to have fairies in between those sensitive to fighting, but now Machamp has 2 charge moves and Heavy Slam just wrecks them. Between that, GRB drop nerf and Blissey nerf it’s clear that Niantic gives a shit about gym defense and just wants you to raid more to feed more (which is legitimate).

I like that it's extremely resistant to Metagross but I don't like having both Gyarados and Milotic, because Raikou is so strong. Also having 2 mons weak and 2 neutral to Machamp means it won't be that troubling for people who just plow through with their old Machamp-heavy teams.

Dragonite IMO is a much better Machamp deterrent than Gyarados, due to ice being a somewhat bad attacking type still and not being weak to Raikou. If anything, I'd start with only having Blissey weak to fighting and including Dragonite, Milotic and Metagross for sure. The 2 remaining spots would go to Muk and Muk-A if we want to minimize sharing weaknesses to strong attacking types.

So my suggestion:
Blissey
Muk or Dragonite
Milotic
Dragonite or Muk
Metagross
Muk-A

There are 3 mon weak to ground, but ground is such a bad attacking type that the attacker is kind of losing already if they bring in a Groudon and spend their time slowly charging EQ to waste half that energy on overkilling the defender. Other than Groudon, it takes quite a few mon to get good, fast matchups against all of them.

I seriously dont understand how this is even a thing?!

Everyone can beat any gym. Only way is GRB and hope the attacker has a life (or at least no battery/power bank) and moves on.
