For those of you who did not see the CP changes
Before they reverted back, here's an idea what to expect when Niantic finally sort it out. Note mewtwos CP was left unchanged but i'm sure it will be different.
Blissey and Snorlax lost hundreds of CP. Machamp went up to about 3000. Espeon lost a bit, RIP your 100% 3000 Espeons. Starter pokemon got a boost. And my 100% dugtrio still sucked.

The Old system was so unbalanced for defense, Blissey is the symbol of that. How can a pokemon that has no physical defense in the main games get a huge defense in GO? A pokemon like Lugia (high physical and high special defense) deserves to be the biggest tank, not blissey.
This new formula is a forward step for the meta. I've had actually gone further and simply given both defenses equal weighting, rather than still giving a 5/8 weight to the higher defense stat.
Agreed, I'm so pleased at all the talk of Blissey getting nerfed, and if you're bewailing it as the End of Days, I think you need to expand your thinking in this game.
It's not that Blissey is exceptionally hard (a good Machamp can take her down easily enough), it's just so predictable and dull. EVERY gym has a Blissey in, often as the first thing. It's boring and needs to be shaken up.
I'm not so sure. Blissey isn't actually that hard, if you have a good fighting type it doesn't take that long to beat. It's certainly not as much of a pain as when gyms were 10 level things and could all be the same pokemon!
As it is, personally, I just find the repetition dull. How hard a gym is, for me anyway, mostly depends on whether someone is watching and golden razzberry-ing it.
As said, gyms were already pretty easy. The thing is, a high level Blissey was the only thing capable of stopping a solo low level player from taking the gym down during the first hours. Also, a gym with full motivated Blissey and its pals (Chansey, Snorlax…) could even make a high level player short of time to give up and look for another gym faster to take down.
Harry - Thanks for the before and after screen shots. I particularly noted your statement "Note mewtwos CP was left unchanged but i'm sure it will be different." Gamepress posted the changes in HP and Stamina for all the pokemon on this website. It showed a 21 point increase in Stamina for MewTwo, which should have increased your MewTwo's CP from the 3907 shown in both screen shots. Since your MewTwo's CP should have increased, but did not, I am wondering if this demonstrates some glitch that resulted in Niantic's rapid withdrawal of the update. Any thoughts on this?
A general tl;dr to this change is as follows;
Any Pokemon with unequal defensive stats lost a little in the rebalance due to the lower stat being given 1/4 more weight in calculations. Pokemon with equal stats like Mew, Registeel, and Deoxys were unaffected defensively.
Any Pokemon with a main series base HP > 200 lost some due to the new calculations. In Go, this currently only amounts to Blissey and Chansey. Literally everything else gained HP, including Snorlax, Wobbuffet, and the unreleased Giratina pre-nerf.
Attack stats remain untouched. Mewtwo still hits as hard and Shuckle barely tickles.
An interesting note is due to the fixed nature of raid boss HP all raid bosses whose defense was affected by this will become slightly easier.
