I'm ok with this. I need to take my Moltres to 35+

That's fine, I still don't have one >90%, and if I ever get a good one, then the candy will be helpful. I'm now suspecting this feature will be like raid bosses where it will be the same for a number of weeks and then they will rotate a different legendary.

This gives a method for players (e.g. rural players) that can't do boss raids to get legendaries.

It seems like both the special and field research rewards might turnover monthly.

Many of the tasks are “battle in a gym” or catch 10 Pokémon, not exactly a thumb breaking ordeal. Bank whatever extra Moltres candy you get and/or put it towards a 2nd one

Never going to make a second Moltres so the candy is just pokestorage decoration for me. Makes it a bit frustrating but then again that clearly shows this feature isn't intended for me but for the players who lack Moltres altogether/good IVs/candy for it.

Same here. I already worked my butt off for a good IV Moltres and the candy to max it so these few weeks of research have essentially been wasteful to me too.
