For a long time stardust was the limiting factor in the game. Now this has changed and the thing holding me back primarily is rare candy. Of course stardust is still important and everyone would love to have more, but with how weak the regular gen 3 pokemon are and the surplus of legendary pokemon, plus more Mewtu invites I primarily raid to obtain more rare candy. I would really like to spend my stardust somehow but there are just no real needs apart from those legendaries...currently I need about 200 more to be able to take my Lugia, Mewtu and Rayquaza where I want them to be. Anyone else feeling this way? It's a little dissapointing if you join a raid and you really don't care about catching the raidboss (latias).

A counter would be Niantic wants you, a more advanced player, to buy an ultra box to get 24 premium passes for $12ishUSD. Part of it is getting your money, but also to have you beat 25% to 33% of a raid boss which helps entice someone doing 10% damage to buy an individual pass for 100 coins.

The person doing 10% isn’t going to organize and coordinate bc 1) they can’t 2) you wouldn’t listen 3) other 10%ers wouldn’t listen either

And you are rewarded with more Premier Balls, more Rare Candy, and therefore a better chance at catching the boss, which is 3-7 of that species' candy should you catch it.

I think stardust is still a major limiting factor. Yes, I agree, RC is a huge limiting factor but it's only there to satisfy wants, not needs. If anything, a RC shortage helps us from going crazy with our stardust spend.

Obviously, we would all dream to have our maxed out 6 mewtwo, 6 weather trio team. However, this is beyond unrealistic even for the best chain raiders out there- no one has that kind of RC stock.

Beyond maybe 2 or 3 copies of the same maxed out 'greatest of all time' legendaries, it is sensible to look for level 40 fillers to round up the team. That 96% Alakazam maxed out, is still on par with a Level 30 mewtwo, in which you need at least 5 levels of RC that could've been used elsewhere.

I've only ever bothered to max out one of each legendary. The first one I'm planning to max out a second copy is Rayquaza to duo Latios.

You are absolutely right! At the beginning, I didn't want to power up a single Rayquaza due to it's small advantage over Dragonite, but then I ended up getting two really good ones and decided to power up both because I wanted one to have flying moves. With the Lati twins now, powering the dragon-ray is a priority even though it will be tough to duo Latios with more Dragonite than Ray.

I agree it's a slow process powering up legendaries but tbh, that's what keeps me going in this game. I'm nearing level 40 & while I don't get alot of time to go raiding, I do any level 2/3 raids I come across locally just for the RC. Still working on legendaries I caught months ago & won't stop till they're where I want them to be. I guess if it was too easy we'd all be sitting on maxed out legends & then complaining we have nothing to do. The game is about the journey, not the destination, just enjoy it!

Most resources are already too easy for urban players to collect.

I don't think there's any question about it, rare candy is the limiting factor over stardust for the vast majority of players. Only the most hardcore raiders are going to be shorter on dust than RC, I do know a few people like that.
Personally I've solved the issue by limiting myself to one powered up legendary per species and I'm getting close to the point where I have enough for all that have been released so far.

As for spending stardust, there are nonlegendary options. 6 maxed Machamps, 3+ maxed Tyranitars, as many maxed Salamences/Dragonites as you need to fill your team, etc. And when you accumulate way too much dust, there are always trophies to power up.

I still think that stardust is THE limiting factor in the game, and likely always will (and should) be...

Well your first mistake is powering up a Lugia
