Places that snow in summer?

I've claimed that Regice or Registeel won't get boosted in summer (Which they will likely appear at) on /r/thesilphroad and got a serious backlash.

Obviously this was a misunderstanding but what kind of place snows in June - August and thus can see the Regis boosted when they are still there?

Southern Hemisphere

Considering I stepped outside last week and the game animation had it raining, the weather in-game was set to snow, and in reality outside it was partly cloudy, I would wager anywhere in the world could get a summer snow

You realize how the earth works right? It is cold on the Southern Hemisphere when it is warm on the northern hemisphere.

wouldn't put it past him, he really doesn't know much about much.

Problem is, most of the Southern Hemisphere is Ocean. Very few places in the southern hemisphere have any significant snowfall in their winter months, and most of that snowfall happens in places of higher elevation. Unlike much of the Northern Hemisphere (by land area, at least, not by population) where it is likely to snow at any elevation for most of the Winter months. And judging by how it's implemented so far here in Canada, I can't imagine how poorly it's going to work in the South. It's snowing where I am almost constantly the last few days, but it's "Cloudy" weather, not Snow, for most of that time. (Which is aggravating because I want a Weather-Boosted Snorunt Raid! ARGH!) Can you imagine that you're in a place in the South, it's snowing where you are (for one of the rare snowstorms at your elevation), but the weather says "Cloudy" or "Partly Cloudy" and you can't get that Weather Boost even though you're standing in a snowstorm?

That said, this is one of the major limitations of Niantic's Weather-Boost system - Fog and Snow are the two weather phenomena that are likely to be rare to non-existent in many places (is it ever going to be "Foggy" in Arizona, for instance? Or Snowy in Mexico City?) so when you have a Raid Boss that is dependent on those (particularly a Legendary - I don't hear anyone complaining that Sableye is nigh-impossible to get a Weather Boost on due to it being a Ghost/Dark, so only in Foggy Weather), it's a legitimate issue to bring up.

I hope Niantic revamps the system. I'd like to see Foggy/Snow removed entirely, then have a system like "Daytime/ Twilight/ Nighttime" to replace "Clear", and having Dark put into Nighttime, Ghost into Twilight, and Steel into Partly-Cloudy.

Really, what it boils down to is that it's not fair that a significant portion of the Pokémon Go world is unlikely to ever get a "Snow" weather boost. Something needs to be done to rebalance that so it's fair for ALL Pokémon Go players.

life isn't fair.

it snows in 50% of the cities around the world. travel more.

and hey... if you live somewhere that it doesn't snow... count yourself lucky!

I wouldn't put that generalisation. 50% is a huge claim and I'd put it less than 25%, or even 20% of all cities in the world see some snow, if any.

Excluding mountain ranges, everything below Europe on the map never snows. That's a good half of China, the whole of India, and a large chunk of Africa as well.

It's true the entire North Africa isn't a sprawling metropolis but it's really a huge swath of the earth that never snows since the ice age (assuming if that was real)

OK... I wasn't considering Africa. I don't think Africa has a lot of Pokémon Go players though.

Mostly I was joking that you warm location people should be glad you don't have snow. It's not possible for me to walk 5 km in winter. You can. Please consider that. And... it doesn't snow by you! So it's nice in winter. Our cold weather is miserable. :)

How about tropical countries like Singapore? At least we have Snow City in Jurong.
