Level cap increase (future update)?

In my local groups there's been a circulation of a level cap increase possibility being confirmed by Niantic staff. This, along with Gen 4 and PVP in the works (though not being released in the immediate future obviously). It should also be talked about on reddit already but I don't see a discussion here so I'm going to start one.

What's your take on this? Personally I wouldn't mind the level raise, but this brings a whole new game to stardust spending if we can power mons beyond 40.

None of that is suprising. I thought a level cap raise would happen with gen3. So few people will be able to afford the stardust to power up, it may be a while it effect the game.
I'm hoping that they make some adjustments to the gym system to make it more challenging.

I'm very excited for these upcoming changes. Specifically: PvP, in-game map for raids, IV boosting items, Pokestop submissions, training in gyms, and blowing up more spoofers. Hype!

IV boosting items were never mentioned in any shape or form, just new items. But I'm hyped too.

According to what I saw posted, yes, IV items were mentioned. Unless "stat changing items" refer to something different. My main-series knowledge is a tad rusty.

Oh there was additional information, I'd only seen the twitter text. Cool but I hope they don't accidentally break the game.

The main games had IV boosting items. They were rare; but they existed.

They boosted EVs, not IVs.

EVs are obtained via fighting Pokemon, and are not inherent in the Pokemon's PNA (Pokenucleic Acid)

There are items in the main games that increase IVs. You can use them only on Pokémon that have reached the maximum level. I’m not sure if they existed before gen 7, but they are a thing.

Why do you think I still use lucky eggs (occasionally) since hitting level 40 in March? I fully expect they raise the level cap, just hope not too soon ;)

...and since you are certainly not the only one, if they just raise the level cap many power players will just jump to the higher levels immediately. On the next day will start complaining that there is nothing left to be done. Even worse, they will not spend more money!
I expect XP to be irrelevant to eventual higher levels. Instead you will be able to accumulate some kind of XP 2.0.

im good on the player and powering up mon level cap i think 40 is good enough. like where would it end at that point?

I don't feel the need of leveling up after 40.

All of these ideas sound exciting. Increasing the level cap would be tricky. I like the idea of rewarding hard work (tossing earned xp is just cruel), but maybe using XP as just one piece of what’s required to level up. It would make more well rounded higher level players.
Example: to reach level 41 you need 7500 more xp, catch 250 of every Pokémon type, walked so many kilometers, won so many battles, etc. Then increasing the need for each category to make progressive levels and/or add new requirements over time. Would control (or make easier to detect) bots and the raid warriors.

simple answer - don't change anything but your level number. when you drop in gyms or raids, people would see that you are a freak. I have 44 million xp - I think I've figured out how to maximize the game , and 6 Machamps at 2886 cp is all I need. So just give me the label 43. Not many people around would have that!
