Legacy IS Lapras (low CP) vs FB Lapras

I long ago passed the gold medal in egg hatches. I've hatched 4 Aerodactyl, over half a dozen Snorlax, and every other Pokemon available in 10k eggs... except Lapras. I can't complain too much, though, as I have caught four Lapras in the wild (before the event), one of which was over 2100 CP (FB/DP) before getting nerfed hard with Gen2. My ONLY Ice Shard catch was a now-951 CP, IS/Blizz with 2/14/8 IVs. Blech.

But I held on to him, and now I'm glad I did, as that's now the only IS Lapras I will likely ever have. So finally, my question....

Thanks to the event, I have enough candy to get that IS/B Lapras above Level 30 (currently a Level 14), somewhere in the 2000-2100s range. I have my FB/DP Lapras, a 2100+ CP FB/Blizz I caught during the event, and a few others in the teens with combinations of WG/FB and Blizz/HP that I can use as attackers, if nothing else. (The only FB/IB I've caught is really tiny.) So, should I use my glut of candy to power the hell out of the IS/B Lapras, or spread it around to get multiples at 2000+ CP but inferior defensive abilities? Is Ice Shard alone worth it vs hoping for a good FB/IB?

If I could hatch just ONE Lapras this would be so much easier....

Thanks for any advice!

This is the one I maxed out a long time ago (IS/B over 2100cp). A few weeks after I hatched a FB/IB and tbh FB is better for attacking. Regarding charge move, both are great (B and IB) so it's just a question of play style.

If I were you, I'd keep the 2100cp with FB/B for attacking gyms and your IS one for prestiging. This way you'll keep your candies and precious dust.

Oh, I have several to use as prestigers now, and I have the event to thank for that. But I want just one really good defender, and IS seems far superior to FB for that purpose. Or is the gap not that large after all?

My FB/DP has been sitting in a gym since before Gen2 and therefore hasn't been subjected to its horrible CP drop yet. ;-)

Yes IS > FB for defending but with Lapras nerf they totally disappeared from gyms here. I really regret that but if you don't mind being at the very bottom of the gym, Lapras is still a strong defender. So it's really up to you then ;-)

Keep in mind that your IVs are also quite low, which means even lower CP.

I know. It's so sad. Used to see at least one in most gyms in the area, now my DP one is the only one around I can recall seeing recently.

I don't mind being at or near the bottom. There are a handful of high level gyms in my area where low 2000s is still viable to stay off at least the very bottom rung. I guess I just really need to decide whether IS is worth it, because I'm considering dumping every candy I have into that one....

Use the CP calculator or an app like Poke Genie to see how high you can power up a pokemon.

This Lapras will take 90 candy and 99,600 dust to get to level 30. It will be 2038cp with 196hp. Max at level 39 is 2344cp with 210hp.
