Just anotjer Dragonite Question

I am level 33 and recently managed to evolve my first two dragonites. Both of them hatched from eggs and thus are lvl 20 (ivs s/a/d):

10/14/13 82% 2003 CP
10/13/14 82% 2002 CP

Unfortunately both of them got Steel wing/Hurricane. I have 96 candies left and ~300k dust. is one of them worth to power up? It would take me quite a while to get the candy for another dratini to evole and to power it up afterwards.
I'd appreciate any thoughts.

They're still Dragonites, and they'll still work alright as defenders, but that's the 2nd worst moveset overall... It really depends on how rare Dratini candy is for you. Maybe try them out first and see how well they perform.

Obviously that DB/anything is the worst. SW/Hurricane is better than DB/anything thanks to type coverages and higher energy gain.

How does steel wing give any sensible type advantage over DB or DT? Against fire, it is balls. Against water, it is also balls. Against dragon, it does not go super effective. These are the only defenders you will see.

You want SW/Hurricane than DB/DP when fighting an enemy dragonite?

Agree with you, I can't believe there's actually a player who prefers SW to DB dragonites LOL. I know DB nites are terrible at defending, but at attacking, it is super good. Good dps with spammable cooldwon, thus dodging-friendly, and STAB. But if he was talking about defender dragonites, then I have to agree that SW>DB. In any case, DT is a lot better than SW in both attacking and defending.

Check out dragonite's page on this site and tell me where the SW movesets sit compared to DB on offense

I'm dealing with something similar, just worse. Just evolved my very first Dragonite and got the dreaded Steel Wing/Hyper Beam (worse than Steel Wing/Hurricane). Dratini candy are NOT easy to come by here. I am very mcuh wondering if I should just work on powering up the one I got or I should start all over. Leaning towards powering this one up. It is still a Dragonite. It will still get high cp that can place above Blissey. And who knows, TM's could be coming.

If you power up one of yours, you have a useful Dragonite NOW. If you start working on a new one, it will take ages and for all we know it will have Steel Wing/Hyper Beam.

I am very tempted to power up the first one. Since with my Dnite luck my next one will certainly be Sw/Hb and, as you said, it will take ages to aquire the required candy. Just for gym placement I've got several high cp gyarados and a 96% iv Ms/Eq Rhydon. Would it still be better/harder to defeat than those?

I would personally evolve again; there's a 1/3 aggregate chance of getting either DT/H or DT/OR
