Heatran in PVP?

I think that thing is designed for pvp and pvp alone, where Fire Blast's bad cooldown won't matter and it's only a bit worse than overheat.

In fact the in-site dps/tdo sheets display heatran to have the highest pvp dps of any grounded fire type and it basically forces Metagross to run a second earthquake move after meteor mash. Also has higher pvp TDO than moltres.

Metagross likely would have run earthquake anyway, as both flash cannon and psychic would offer nothing useful, dark/psychic type counters resist psychic and why carry double steel moves and if going to neutral damage just use meteor mash? Earthquake was something metagross already should have carried as a second move because heatran's not the only pokemon to double resist meteor mash but we weak to earthquake.

Heatran changes nothing, other than maybe the amount of time people take to get earthquake.

It certainly looks like it has potential.

I suspect though that it will find more of a home in the Ultra league where the pool of viable mons is much larger. In Master it's a lot smaller, where Ground moves are a strong possibility. It has no real teeth against Groudon.

I don't see Heatran making great waves in PvP tbh.

Fire spin is fine but none of its charge moves are that great in PvP. Then theres its double weakness to Ground moves, the ubiquitous, in Masters, Groudon completely smokes Heatran, its doubtful Heatran would even get close to getting a charge move off.

One double weakness, and six double resistances. Looks pretty good for PVP to me.

Crack on if you think you can use it. I've just tested a 2107cp FS/Fb in both Ultra and Master against a real player and the team leaders and it really wasn't much good. Giratina, Latios, Dragonite and Groudon are light years ahead

if it was around 2100 CP no crap it wasnt good, other pokemon have nearly 400 CP on it. its not like just because it has high stats and a type combination it going to do well, it need to be powered up, if you got on to a level it could be around 2500 CP, then it actually might do well.

Doesn't stop my <1500cp Altaria sweeping the team leaders in master league................

I know Heatran is the new shiny toy and nobody wants to hear that its not actually that good but just go check the dps/tdo rankings here or the rankings at pokebattler and its average at best or better yet, go use one, I know my Groudon will appreciate it.

Altatia, meet stone edge

Never said that heatran was perfect, no pokemon is, but heatran resists a vary large number of pokemon, including dragons and meteor mash metagross. If it came to using entei moltres or heatran at the same CP in pvP, i'd take heatran.

Its also not like heatran must run only firespin and fireblast, both stone edge and flash cannon hit dragons for neutral damage, (stone edge hitting the flying ones super effective)

For what they should be, the team leaders are a joke and not something I would use for an indication of something's strength.

If your opponents shields are down and Groudon is not on the field I could imagine Heatran to become a threat. Though it's likely that your opponent runs a dragon which resists fire and I doubt that one Fire Blast can compete with two Outrage or three Dragon Claws.

Remember, though, that energy values are not the same as they are outside of PvP. Outrage uses something like 60 energy and Fire Blast something like 75. I think Dragon Claw is something like 45 but it certainly isn't 1/3 of Fire Blast.
