According to the entries I had 13 Blisseys in gyms that returned to me.....I wish!!!
It says some of my mons fought hard and return. They're all my mons. Some of them I don't believe were in gyms. My shuckle came back twice. While I do occasionally troll the gym with him I never do it back to back.
Edit: upon closer inspection it could be true. The dates are very irregular. It could be the same Blissey coming back several times.
I have a SW/DC Dragonite being returned. It's definitely mine, it has the altered name I gave it. Funny thing is that yo the best of my memory it's been forever since it's even been a gym placeholder. Like possibly weeks upon weeks. I had two Blissey placed when the gyms shut down and neither of them show as returned.
I have a couple that appear to have returned multiple times, and even a Lickitung return mentioned in my Journal. That Lickitung was actually from about 5 days before the gym shutdown (I had to send a message to someone).
I suspect that your Blissey may just be the same Blissey that you put in as a defender many times in the days leading up to the gym shutdown. It went in gyms and came back - rinse and repeat.
Once you have updated the app, you now have a new 'Setting' - a push notification 'Pokemon Return'...so the new app has collected all the recorded returns since they built the system, and sent them all at once when you have updated the app.
TL/DR It is the same Blissey triggering a Blissey returning message collected over many days, then sent all at once when you updated.
Yes just noticed something similar. Had 4 mon in gyms when they went quiet. 7 mon returned. 3 of those were all the same Blissey (two of them reflected the powerup I did when she came back, one did not), Gary came back twice, and Vap and Jolt once. Strange accounting, but I can see what's happening (all my mon have unique names). Not sure why, they didn't breed or clone or anything.
