I was wondering why the community I live only saw one ex raid and it was under testing phase. We would like to see more ex raids. Unfortunately I was unable to do the survey but it would be nice to have the chance to catch Mewtwo and any other ex raid bosses down the line.

I'm wondering why EX Raids are still a thing when Special Research is superior in every way

EX Raids increase sales at sponsored stops. Yeah I get that many will brag that they never spend anything. The 3 EX Raid passes I have had with my wife all resulted in Stabucks sales that would not have happened without the pass.

The EX Raids I've been invited to were at places where I cannot really figure out what they're trying to do.
First was at an old house that is the headquarters of PNL (a political party), so I guess they want our vote? The other was at a gym that no longer has the monument of 555 Years Bucharest that it shows in the photodisc.
Others got invited to a monument of Balzac in a park.

A lot of EX raids are done where there is high raid activity.
Most EX raids are given in parks and public places.
Some more closed off gym are not eligible for ex raids.

The answer to your question can be found here.

Our town with 50 gyms has only 2 gyms that qualify by the trigger criteria. Neither is where our test phase EX raid was. EX raids are common now that we know where to raid heavily.

I live in a middle sized city, a suburb next to Ottawa, you can't do Latios just by showing up you need a group to organize.
We figured that everytime we triggered an EX raid, it was from doing a raid with 16-20 people in it.
We also met people not from our raid group that got invited, I imagine by doing a separate raid at the same gym we did.
